When Gloria joined the crew of the Amaryllis as a burnt out corporate lawyer turned project manager, she had assumed she would be done with contracts. After all, this planet stuck in a perpetual morning was supposed to be empty and a prime colony candidate. However, shortly after arriving, Gloria learns that they were not the only ones with their eye on this planet—nor the land with enough sunlight to be viable. First contact leads to communication challenges, but even after she and Emeric, the leader of these strange aliens and the single most dramatic man she has ever met, are able to comprehend each other, they have a long way to go before truly understanding each other. They must to work together to fend off a common threat to the mutually coveted Sunny Spot before they can resolve the dispute. Along the way, she finds that maybe this alien man is more similar to herself than she is comfortable with. Especially in that they are both keeping secrets that could have consequences for the colony and the future of humanity. Gloria has to question if the definition of honesty is truly as universal as she thinks. "It seemed as though everyone but Gloria shed a tear upon seeing the planet on the ship's descent. After three years of space travel, to not only see land, but their future home, drew out gasps and sighs as the crew pressed up against the windows to catch a glimpse of this strange new world. The lower the ship sloped down, the more it whined and clicked with different mechanisms to prepare for their landing. Breaking through the atmosphere, the blushing clouds yawned around the Amaryllis while it glided into its preordained landing spot. Splotches of watery blues made up the sky around them, giving way to soft purples and their peach clouds. She thought of the morning she left Earth; how the sun had not yet risen and the light had only chased away the shadows just enough to cast a dim film of morning blue. Unlike Earth, she would learn, this sky would remain a slow kaleidoscope of watercolors for the entire span of its rotation." ""Maybe. But I think," he said, his hand moving from her jaw to the nape of her neck, slowly, deliberately, "You want a play partner. And everyone else has been too insipid for you. If that is what you want," he paused, his breath heavy against the shell of her ear, "I promise, I will not leave you bored." His voice had dropped into a low valley, warm like the bite of whiskey. And it probably said a lot about her that fear was not her primary response to his touch. Her nerves felt electric—he was right, she felt more alive than ever. "Then you better get to filling out those forms," she all but purred back at him. Her senses were overwhelmed with the spice of him. He nipped at her earlobe shamelessly, and that same dulcet tone delivered his words so close to the translator. "I will give you enough paperwork that you do not see daylight for a week.""
