Ah sigh. In other news, water is wet.
In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...
Being Too Helpful At Work Can Hurt Your Career—Here’s How To Say No
Women are more likely to take on behind-the-scenes duties at work—extra tasks like onboarding or event planning—and it's hurting their careers. Here's how to say no.

‘The rallies mattered. But they are just the start. Being activated is one part. We didn’t rally today for ourselves – as scientists. We rallied because science serves the public. It matters to everyone.’
Long-form perspective, inspired by Friday's #standupforscience2025 rallies in the context of ongoing attacks on science and scientists. The central message of the piece is simple: we are at risk of moving into a period of state-sponsored pseudo-science.

Somewhere in the U.S., there’s a scientist staring at their NSF/NIH grant application wondering why they bother. This post is for you. Science and society both need you. Hang in there and know there is a whole community supporting you.

I gonna keep trying to showcase that small questions in science are still very much real science. Just because the question and output is small, does not make it any less valid. We've gotten a lil snobby about how we define science today, more focused on size than content.

A conserved community of microbes assemble to drive human decomposition

Pun absolutely intended 💀
A paper in Nature Microbiology suggests that a component of the microbiomes associated with decomposing human cadavers are universal regardless of location or environmental conditions. go.nature.com/3OIpMYV 🧪
