Acabo de ver que Reedsy ha añadido la opción de no trabajar con textos que se hayan generado con IA como motivo para rechazar un encargo y me parece fenomenal.

why AI should not replace human translators #38265073

"A striking example from Prof Federici's research showed the risks of unchecked machine translation of cancer information, with "Don't stay at home if you develop a fever" being translated as "Do stay at home"

Exactly. So many quality-related questions, and that's without bringing up the problem of the price and the labor issues that are certainly in play at that price point.

Their results say nothing meaningful about the reader experience in the target language and I have questions about the “extensive blind testing”. Under what conditions did the human translators produce the test translations and what criteria were the presumably bilingual reviewers asked to apply?

If only there'd been some way to predict this... Sigh.

On a slightly less sarcastic note, this is why many editors ask if AI has been used in writing – because a lot of editing is taking LONGER if it's AI text rather than human text. Not always, obviously – but often.

Both these books are gorgeous, unforgettable 🔥. Grab 'em if you can!

I'll be looking to see which others I can get from Spain.

If you're getting notifications from Academia(.)edu about AI versions of your papers now being podcasts, that's because the (predatory) platform has opted you into AI-enhanced outputs, which you can turn off in your Account Settings here.
A screencap of Academia.edu's Account Settings under the header "AI Settings" showing their AI-enhanced Outputs feature is automatically turned on with a green switch unless you turn it off and do your part to de-enshittify the internet.

I've been running and attending retreats since 2018. This kind of writing magic consistently happens because of the structured writing, the facilitation and the presence of other dedicated writers.

If you'd like some writing magic, join my next online retreat, July 3-4. www.linguaverse.net/3-4-july

Why am I such a fan of writing retreats?

At every retreat I:
🎯 make more headway on my writing project than I would have otherwise
🛠 gain insight into my writing craft, process, strengths and weaknesses
🙌 learn something from other writers
🚀 come away with motivation and momentum to keep writing

Still energized and in thinking mode after yesterday's annual planning class with @jovanevery.bsky.social, I've hiked up Donostia's Monte Urgull to do some dedicated thinking and writing about the joys and logistics of running #WritingRetreats and #SocialWriting projects in 2025-2026. #MiniRetreat
A view of Donostia-San Sebastián from Monte Urgull. Foreground shows green Spanish olives and water on a table. Beyond that is a view that includes a bit of old fort wall, trees, La Concha bay, La Concha beach, building dotting the hillsides behind the beach and in the far background cloud frosted mountains.
