'Nature cure' is a quiet form of erasure. And a cop-out.

The land is there, it can hold us, but it cannot remake the world. Only we can do that.

The real task isn’t “teaching people to spot misinformation.” It’s rebuilding conditions where verification, deliberation and accountability are possible. Critical thinking only works when the world around it gives those skills a place to take root.

Tbh this is the kind of thing I love. Both the account that posts Ladybird art and the kind of people who look closely enough at the art to identify the tractor and what it’s doing.
Given what the tractor is pulling (the red tinwork and grey wheels make this a Massey Ferguson 35, I think), it's fair to say that the various corvids and woodpigeons are eating 💩.

This might put a different complexion on the scene!

When was the last time you checked the filter in your washing machine?

I have recently checked my own and the one in the flat in Spain. a lot of gunk collects in there. Cleaning it out periodically is a really good idea.

This!! Emily Doucet and I talked about this recently in relation to scholarly writing. I need to edit that conversation and will be sharing it in the new calendar year.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 209:
Not all writing needs to “lead somewhere.” Joy is a valid end in itself. So is practice: everything you write makes you better writer.

Protip for good white people: there IS a answer when asked “are you racist?”

You simply say: “being born and raised in white supremacy means all of us hold and racialised worldviews. But I am learning about racism and working on changing my worldview and myself.”

Home. The M25 was miraculously good. The Channel rough but manageable. Couldn’t really read.

Long day.

We’re moving into the season where everyone’s talking about resolutions for the New Year. If that’s inspiring you to finally figure out how to keep writing even when teaching, (or if it's overwhelming you!) Planning Q3 can help.

leaving France today to head home. My partner checked the shipping forecast. I made sure we know where the travel sickness meds are.

I guess the question today is what’s worse? the channel or the M25?

Dislike the sound of plans for a digital ID roll-out?

There are good reasons!!

Immigrants in the UK are already subject to a digital ID system & it's been a mess since day one.
Very important report here from brilliant Migrant Voice with @openrightsgroup.org explains the key issues 🤓👇
You can read about the launch of the report on our website, along with a range of issues raised by speakers. Not only did we hear about way in which the digital immigration system excludes many migrants, we also heard how it can put abuse victims at further risk.

I'm disappointed in the Girl Guides and the WI for caving to this, but I'm *furious* with the transphobes and the supreme court and the EHRC and the government for causing this situation, when even trans inclusive institutions are throwing people out.

if you gut higher education successfully, it will take decades to recover. Subject experts, skilled pedagogues, and experienced research leaders don't pop off a factory line for next-day delivery. Once it's gone, it's going to be very hard work to get it back, even if everyone decides we want to.

While obviously Lammy's proposal of scrapping many jury trials is getting the headlines, it seems odd how little attention his proposal to scrap the automatic right to appeal is getting. That seems like quite a big thing to be honest, especially for poorer and more marginalised defendants. #r4today
