The only acceptable Keynesianism to the Labour right is military / weaponised Keynesianism. Impossible to harness state capacity for jobs & infrastructure in eg the NHS, council housing, social care or education. But loadsa cash to funnel to arms manufacturers to build munitions that'll gather dust

Please please please can we let the argument die that trans people have lost our rights because a few trans people were overzealous on Twitter?

Like I get Labour members want to defend their party, but it’s genuinely just incredibly insulting as well as incorrect.

We could have been not selling off & building new council houses all this time but Times readers you said no, no council houses. They bring the value of my home down. Only house price inflation for me

my unpopular opinion is if you sell an expensive house in London and move up north or a cheaper area on the coast then that she be capital gains taxed

oops i just subtweeted half of Hastings
All of this “woe is me my house is now really expensive and so a tax is unfair” stuff completely negates to acknowledge the implicit fact that the house owner has made an insane profit by doing absolutely nothing

The bursting of the AI bubble will cause so much chaos, the scale of public anger against the industry will dwarf that faced by the banks in 2008.

They'll have to find someone to take the blame for all of it, a sin eater against whom all the public rage can be chanelled.

I hope it's Sam Altman.

Homeowners and aspiring homeowners are really resistant to any challenge to the idea that they should get to sit an indefinitely inflating asset, benefit from that inflation in the value and that the rest of us should just suffer the consequences.

No surprise to me either as a 80s-90s home counties grammar school kid.

What if its not the "concerned" left behind vs the cosmopolitan elite? What if its actually the multi-ethnic majority vs the racist elite? What kind of politics could we build on that basis?

rampant and unashamed transmisogyny across our political, media and legal classes has carved huge holes into which other bigotries will happily pour.

the cis establishment could have stopped this. they chose to encourage it. so I can only assume they’re going to choose this to encourage, too.

Completely, and in my experience when removed from the immediate sugar rush of a right wing propaganda operation screaming in their ear all day, people tend to revert to at least an economically leftish median.

And that's why these papers still run despite making no money.
I get a surprisingly large number of responses saying “This is because the public are stupid” but for real, if that was the key issue, then it wouldn’t be necessary to constantly shitehouse people with the most misleading and inflammatory messages they can get away with. There would be no need.
It is IMO not possible to operate any kind of meaningful democracy when your national press is a joke and a travesty, but your mileage on that may vary. I think it’s incontestable that it is impossible to govern well and effectively, while being in hock to these pantomime clowns.
