Robert Stephenson, one of the greatest engineers and a designer of locomotives, died on this day 1859. Son of George Stephenson, the 'father of railways'. Designed the Rocket and lots of bridges.

I keep getting adverts for a Kendal Mint Cake Advent Calendar, and as someone who has choked down vast quantities of Kendal Mint Cake while dangerously close to hypothermia, on an exposed cliff in a storm, desperately inching towards a safe place to stop and camp... I cannot think of anything worse.

Friend’s wedding today - and I don’t have to officiate just be a guest! Decided to accessorize with yellow - not a colour I usually wear. If it’s too pale it washes me out; if there’s too much of it, I look jaundiced. But I think the tie is working

I got reduced figs yesterday and made the most of them tonight. Celebrating the start of our October break and not having to get up for school tomorrow! Indulgent I know, but I'm not going to pretend I don't enjoy my Sunday #cheese tradition. #EduSky

On the tray: main cheese- vacherousse, a french soft creamy cheese, small amount of Rutland Red, hard English red cheese. Puff pastry with fresh figs and goats cheese, chopped walnuts on top. Sliced pear with goats cheese, sliced baguette, Beremeal crackers, chery tomatoes on the vine, prosciutto, roasted red grapes, fresh apricot, persimmon butter pistachios, walnuts and a small dish of honey with drizzler in it. A small cheese knife is balanced beside the vacherousse.

"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."
