People in new opera, what % of the box office do the composer and librettist get? I'm trying to get a handle on what the current norm is and am coming up short with OA and DG and such.

🤦 When a librettist writes an intricate phrase with a twist and a pause and an arc and then the composer is all, I’m just gonna machine gun this with eighth notes and get ‘er done!

Opera Philadelphia 2025–26 season just went on sale, and again *every* seat in the house is available for as low as $11. Bought my tickets for 'Complications in Sue,' the new opera by 'A Strange Loop' playwright Michael R. Jackson with 10 brilliant composers. www.operaphila.org/whats-on/252...

I co-created a show (Victoria, BC, Canada) that features these five uber talented, wonderful human beings at The Belfry Theatre. Shows are selling out so our run's extended to May 25th. Ticket prices remain fair and flexible.

“The Central Park Five,” an opera about the Black and Latino boys wrongly convicted of raping a Central Park jogger, opens next month at the Detroit Opera House. We spoke with the company about the perils of mounting a production that waves a red cape at Donald Trump's reactive presidency.

The Listeners opens in Germany soon. One of the highlights of this new opera ('22) for me is Mazzoli's orchestral writing when supporting the layered chorus. It's rare to hear something so full, unique, and powerful these days, and it happens in a few places.
