Highlights of my teaching week were being outside with the children. Lots of fun playing with autumn leaves, sycamore seeds and throwing them up as everyone leapt into the air from our climbing blocks. Autumn 1 is exhausting in EYFS, but still full of joy!

Do most secondaries use these to set GCSE targets? So if you reach Expected, they’ll push you to get 4s/5s, but if you miss they won’t?

A model of a T-Rex made entirely from recycled toilet roll tubes. Pictures show a simple head, made from one tube, and a complete 3D sculpture, something a little more complex, and made from many tubes.

Rounding off the weekend with smores round the fire pit. Some days are hard, but I like it when they end like this.

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?

(2/2) is tearing up the path to say hello. A sweet reminder of why I love what I do. We both agreed we weren’t ready for school to start again yet, but maybe now I am. Ready for a new bunch of little people to get to know, to laugh with and to learn with. It might just be the best job in the world.

Back to school. Holidays ended yesterday with a trip to the allotments open day for some apple-pressing and ridiculously cheap and tasty cakes, before watching Wicked with friends. Standing at the top of the hill I hear a distant voice… “Mrs Plane!” and a moment later one of my kids from last year

Taught my Year 3s for the last time today. I'm really excited about heading back to Reception in September, but I will miss my Tulips! I told them today my favourite thing has been story time each day. We've read some cracking books together!

If we genuinely want to close gaps we need to give children the things they've missed (often opportunities for play, serve and return conversations, exploration and physical activity). You can't jump ahead by forcing the next stage if the foundations aren't there. #EYFS #PlayMatters

Switched my day off this week so that I could be in school today for our fun run and carnival themed closing ceremony of Sports/Arts week. 900 children singing, dancing, celebrating on the very warm playground. It was properly joyful. Days like this I really love my job.
