but it also puts you in tension, fundamentally, with reactionaries, because good evidence of benefits and lack of evidence of significant harms should earn trust, even if the process is new or "creepy"

trust should follow evidence and use, not precede it. and i think, basically, a lot of tech optimism is positioned against good scientific practice by presuming high trust and good outcomes before there's any evidence. this is always going to put good scientists in tension with technologists

But after the China Unification Promotion Party threatened to kick out students, some pro-Taiwan gangs (lol, what a word) came up from the south to support students. Of course, that doesn't look great for optics for the movement, so that was basically stricken from the record

On the question of where gangs would stand in a potential invasion scenario, honestly, I generally suspect gangs would split along identity lines. It's not discussed much because it was basically wiped from the historical record about the Sunflower Movement

That carries weight and always weighs the same

Two things:

1) The principle here, called pikuach nefesh, says that you can break a law *to save a life*, not to TAKE a life.

2) But even then, some laws can never be broken to save a life. One thing you *cannot* do for the sake of pikuach nefesh is to kill someone else.

Fun fact: if you go to South Indian Christian communities, you will encounter multiple Georges (among more other Anglo coded names)
like it's not the name of anyone in the Bible (it's a place) so it doesn't quite have the same ding, it just sounds like a generic English name

christmas has gotten so far from its religious roots, wish we could celebrate our holidays like medieval christians (cross-dressing, being told by the bishop to stop cross-dressing, resolutely refusing to stop cross-dressing, threatening the bishop in defense of cross-dressing)

Some will say this is conspiratorial collusion, but I think the most likely explanation is that they are way out of their depth.
It’s weird that news organizations like the BBC are covering this as if it’s a real thing with a real process behind it—and not clearly some nakedly invented “participation trophy” by a corrupt organization to curry favor with a corrupt and easily manipulated man-child. www.bbc.com/sport/footba...

The TLDR of the Streeting review is your quality of life doesn't matter so long as you are contributing to the economy and employment stats - which will exacerbate most MH conditions and increase suicide rates, which they don't care about either because the economy, stupid.

There’s a type of LLM advert which essentially depicts
1) a person using an LLM for a task it absolutely can perform
2) but a person who is qualified to double check its working wouldn’t need to.
Feels like this is the type of “AI misalignment” we should really worry about!

The "over diagnosis of mental illness" thing makes me really sad.
I've done angry (esp with Streeting) for years now. Now I'm just sad.
It took me 25 years to get a diagnosis.
25 years.
By that time I wasn't sure if I was going to be admitted or arrested.
