This is the face of a cat that just bullied me into sitting with him because he was meowing at me from the stairs. He loves belly rubs and I am all for it.

Dorian the grey cat has effectively manipulated me into sitting on the bed with him because he wanted belly rubs and his face shows his absolute contentment for what he has done.

That's a good policy! The rescue I volunteer with also takes special care if cats end up bonding while at the shelter, which I'm glad that they do.

drive east of Madison, and it was in black and white only. it was colorized when I was a freshman in college. I'm always glad to see it's not only still published but expanding :D Having the print edition return is ace. I used to have clippings in my locker at school-can't do that with online only!

I'm totally going to gift a subscription to my son for Christmas. He's 12 and is a voracious consumer of news with a love of satire already emerging. What's crazy is that I remember when I was in high school you could only get copies if you traveled to Madison or Milwaukee I was a 50 min..

Hi! Longtime cat-keeper and shelter volunteer here - bonded pairs should never be separated, some adult cats up for adoption actually do prefer to be only cats. Kittens do better in pairs because they have a buddy. Odd numbers of cats sometimes causes issues (like three) but not always.

end up feeling like transcribing jazz solos in my head - I like to spend time trying to figure out where in the mouth/throat they're formed (like woah the back of the throat use in Cantonese K/G being combined) or transcribing how voice actors make D&D animal sounds!

The flipped R for me was never super difficult to get, but teaching my Japanese friends who wanted to learn English better how to separate R from L took me some time to figure out how to explain. V / B as well since there is no V sound at all. Language phonemes are neat because ones we don't have..

JUST IN: Evacuation Warnings have been issued in Los Angeles County in California for ALL burn scar areas ahead of the incoming storm system which could bring dangerous flooding and significant debris flows around the burn scars.
If you live around the burn scars of Los Angeles County, officials are encouraging you to evacuate.
Isolated tornadoes are also possible across Los Angeles and Orange Counties tomorrow.

ohhhhh holy crap, you're right. i hadn't made that connection before (but I see you are an actual Linguist, which is RAD btw). I've spent some time with Japanese friends trying to help them differentiate R from L and P from B and part of my fascination with languages are those concepts that exist..

Fun linguistic detour - I had a 4th grade teacher that made the entire class learn how to properly pronounce the word "tsunami" with the actual "tsu" (vs the not-so-correct "soo") and it stuck with me all these years - because her point was to have us understand that some loan words also..
