My goal is not to "save science". My personal fight is to make sure that any planetary science that moves forward moves forward with everyone and that we remake planetary science into a field even better, and more welcoming, than what we've had.

There are lots of BIG emotions during this week of the annual LPSC meeting. Some folks are there and wondering if it will be their last time. Some are not there due to government regulations. Some are not there due to the dangerous actions of the Texas government. #LPSC2025 #PlanetaryScience
Today is the first day of the annual* Lunar and Planetary Science Conference, the biggest planetary science meeting in the world.
And we're hearing that NASA's Office of Technology, Policy and Strategy and Office of the Chief Scientist have been shut down.

Fascinating and well-researched article about the interaction of money and knowledge at NASA.
Bottom line: You can loose knowledge if you cut NASA too much. (Example: we had to relearn how to get to the moon.)
I'd bet that this applies to other government agencies.

Tacit knowledge: use it wisely, or break it all up and lose it for good.

Cultivating allyship for a diverse, equitable and inclusive academia - Nature Human Behaviour
We propose six actionable steps of allyship that researchers, faculty members and educators can engage in to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive academia: listening to marginalized voices, challenging one's own biases, speaking up to include disadvantaged groups, speaking out to confront bias, advocating for inclusive policies and dismantling institutional biases.

Given how many individual careers in American science have been delayed, ruined, or just made much harder than they should be due to insecure misogynist twerps, it would somehow make sense for the entire enterprise of American science to face the same at the hands of an insecure misogynist twerp.

Some researchers at NASA and outside it feel betrayed by the changes at the agency, which was known for promoting inclusion in science.
