Better times are ahead 😀
We are up & trucking for the year ahead. First snowdrops appearing in the park. Value to wildlife? As they flower so early, snowdrops do not rely on pollinators to reproduce. Instead, they spread via bulb division, though they may still be visited by bees & other insects on a particularly warm day.

First full winter of having the benefit of these new lights in Hailes Quarry Park. Made a big difference connecting residents to bus services on what was a very dark, uninviting connection from Murrayburn Rd to Longstone St. It was a long detour round if you didn't want to cut through the park. 👍
New solar hybrid lighting installed in Edinburgh parks
The city council says Edinburgh is the first UK city to use this type of lighting in parks.

Confirming £60m for bus priority in 2026-27 (more due in later years)

At last, a more realistic allocation. Now get on with it, Councils (and don't put them through hoops, Transport Scotland).

A pedestrian bridge would certainly be preferable to the white line protecting pedestrians here.

Safety at the Kingsknowe crossing greatly improved since this incident back in 2012 when it was destroyed by a driver. A new pedestrian bridge would further improve safety/travel times for locals. A well used route by children from Kingsknowe to Longstone Primary. @drscottarthurmp.bsky.social

With Network Raill interested in improving the pedestrian experience at the Kingsknowe level crossing, a common complaint is the length of time the barriers remain closed, particularly if trains are expected from both directions. Worth remembering why this is the case. @drscottarthurmp.bsky.social

Interesting watch at DM Sub Planning committee yesterday. The New Mart Rd development returned after the Scottish Reporter took a long time to respond. Far from satisfactory as far as Cllrs concerned. Huge development - no car club spaces & no active travel contribution at big no-car development. /1

Additionally, we're going to meet on site with Places for People in January to discuss options around tree planting and find out what's possible. 👍
Longstone sinkhole fixed, path open again, wall reinforced, and existing paths beefed up with more hardcore and whindust. A bit of seeding required in spring, and some mesh fencing to add but otherwise all good. 🙂
