Temporary traffic-calming measures implemented in the east of Edinburgh during covid will be made permanent, ending a months-long saga. At the Traffic Regulation Orders Sub-Committee on Thursday, councillors voted to approve the change, which will see bus lanes, loading restrictions and other changes kept in place. Some of the infrastructure installed at the start of the scheme will also be replaced, alleviating concerns that some councillors had raised.

The very first Hailes Quarry junior park run will take place on Sunday morning. This is a free, fun friendly 2K event for junior runners from 4 to 14 years old, and it starts every Sunday at 9.30am at Hailes Quarry Park, Dumbryden Drive, Edinburgh, EH14 2QR. The event is free, but those taking part must register once only and will get a scannable copy of their barcode from which their time is calculated.

Road traffic numbers in Edinburgh have risen for the fourth year running since covid – but Edinburgh’s transport boss says he is still trying to cut the figure down. New figures published by the Department for Transport said 2.38 billion kilometres were travelled on Edinburgh roads in 2024. It marks an increase of 39 million kilometres over last year – and is up 560m km from 2020, where figures were depressed due to the pandemic.
