They're pulling those faces for all of us!
the deliberately blank faces of bai jingting, william chang, huang bo, and jackson wang as they vainly try to conceal their Horrified Misgiving about the weibo night "dancing" robots? will in fact be my new reaction gif for all of 2026 i'm just warning you now

I’m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about “the benefits of AI” forever.

Tons! Death, love, belief, religion, & culture all have political currents through them. We are trying to step carefully through research.

Characters can have different opinions from me, so I strive to understand their POVs so I don't suggest opinions they don't actually have, either #PretendPanel
I'm breaking the rule of not bringing up politics, #pretendpanel! Still, I think it's important to think about it in our writing.

February 7th: How much has real world politics had an impact on your writing, or do you avoid that like the plague?

I enjoy reading them, but not always. If I need an escape, I'll seek out other kinds of plots, and if the politics get too complicated too fast, I might bow out. I've finished some high fantasy stories, but not all.

I don't often write "Politics", but everything is political #PretendPanel
Today is Waitangi Day here in Aotearoa, #pretendpanel, and it gets me thinking about the role of politics in the stories we tell.

February 6th: Do you enjoy writing or reading political plotlines?

I know some of the appeal of working at night is that it's quiet and people won't bother you, but I also wish I had more people to chat with while I'm up :(

A beautiful, but sad story💔

P.S.: This type of commission is closed until mid-to-late February.

My attention has been split between this writing project account and an art account. Linked below is the art account ~!

Moma crochets as their main craft, but they don't have a crocheted account

These past 10 months or so have truly been the season of Imposter Syndrome and I am getting kind of sick of it!!
January 30, 2026 at 5:39 PM
I'd like to do more in-person events again. I used to do readings every month, but then I moved and lost that community. The community that was here when I first arrived was also not what I needed at the time. I'm hoping that I can find another group we both feel comfortable in #PretendPanel
Hello #pretendpanel, here's your next question...

January 30th: What's the next evolution you would like to see for yourself as a writer? (in terms of skill, output, input, etc - maybe focus on things you can control and not pipedreams)

To the Chinese, the cicada symbolizes purity of soul, rebirth, and life's fleeting nature. After years buried underground, it rises to sing a brief, piercing song...then vanishes. Scholars once placed jade cicadas in the mouths of the dead, 1/2

Canada has a major white nationalist problem. If you see a Canadian on here using what's happening in Minnesota as a pretext to spout alt right bullshit, block and move on. Don't give them air.

"Just write the scenes you love first, figure out how you get there later" does not work for me at all. When I figure out how to get there first, the scenes I love gradually shift to accommodate the how and why. When I write those scenes first, they crystallize in a narratively unreachable shape.
Good evening #pretendpanel! Hope your January is going swimmingly. Today, let's discuss...

January 23rd: Was there ever something you changed about your process, or even in a single draft, that you later came to regret?

Moma's answering this one, #PretendPanel :

I regret not writing every week. I understand why I did it at the time, but it's built up a lot of guilt in me

Tragedy isn't the only thing worth writing or reading.

#PretendPanel
#pretendpanel, once again, cannot wait to hear your answers to this one...

January 24th: Is there a significant change you can remember that was like a huge revelation for you? (whether in your process, or between drafts, whatever)

HEY APub AUTHORS!!!

Amazon has put up a form where they (non legal terminology) sign over their half of any anthropic settlement money to you. Obvs I can not give anyone legal advice, but check this out. This could give you 2x the money.

Also my reminder to ALL AUTHORS that the time is running out to submit your claim! I did a thread about it here! And I walked @goddessblade.bsky.social through it the other day in like 15 minutes! I promise it is not as scary as it sounds!!!

Please submit your claim!

Okay! I officially just submitted my anthropic settlement info! If anyone out there hasn't done it and is overwhelmed, please feel free to reply here! I have a weird situation (co-writer, self-pub) & also some of my entries are weird, so I got to go on a MADCAP ADVENTURE!

I will encourage* you!

Readers... this AI shit in Amazon ebooks is something authors can't opt out of and it's frankly illegal, but when did that stop tech companies? The only thing they respond to (sometimes) is customer backlash — don't use this feature and tell Amazon you hate it.

I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.
