Things that have helped today

1. Morning cuddles
2. A brisk walk
3. Pain au chocolat and latte
4. Reading a brilliant book in the park with the sun shining
5. Showing up to write (even if I didn’t get much done)

Today I read Classic Quest 17 -Crime and Punishment by Kate Atkinson (which took a bit of a turn) from her collection Normal Rules Don’t Apply.

Today’s writing session has been more of a ‘show up’ session with no real writing being achieved. Some stuff did get done, just not writing.

I am solidly in hibernation mode at this point and that’s okay.

Looking for a recommendation in SE London:
I have a lovely hairdresser but would like to find someone who specialises in (or is more experienced in) a ‘curly’ cut in short/pixie hair.
It also needs to be affordable given I get a hair cut every five weeks!

Today was Haircut Day which includes many things I passionately dislike:

1. A scheduled appointment
2. Small talk
3. Noise, heat, smells
4. Being repeatedly touched by someone I don’t know well

On an unrelated note I’m on a waiting list for an autism assessment

What is your preferred alternative to Goodreads and what do you love about it?
I’m looking to move away from Goodreads but LOVE tracking my reading and don’t want to lose my Goodreads data

I love my current read (The Passage by Justin Cronin) and I’ve been looking forward to reading it but, given my current… ‘mood’, I do wonder if I should be reading something just a little more upbeat.
Suggestions for mood boosters?

Today was a day hindered by headaches and anxiety.

The good parts:
1. hazelnut croissant for breakfast
2. getting very into my book (I LOVE my current read
3. discovering a very satisfying Supernatural edit
4. journaling out my anxieties

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 111:
There’s no limit as to how much description you include in a book. Some books are spare, others lavish. But however much you include, every sentence should pay its way in atmosphere, plot, effect on the characters, etc. Nothing should be just word count.

After talking to my partner about my current WIP (something I rarely do in the early stages) I think, thanks to his input, I’ve managed to solve a lot of what wasn’t working

I've seen people say that getting attached to ChatGPT is like "believing the stripper really loves you", but that's not true. It's more like believing that the dryer personally composed that little jingle on a lonely sockless night just to win your affections.

Now onto another trilogy (that again I started a very long time ago). I am extremely excited to reread The Passage by Justin Cronin and hope it’s as amazing as I remember

Don't front-load your work with unnecessary backstory and intricate worldbuilding. Give your readers only as much as they need to engage with the plot and characters, and let them discover the rest as and when they need it...
