Writer. Consumer of croissants, iced coffee, and books.
Today has been a good day. Things that have helped:

1. A good night’s sleep
2. Getting out for a walk before work (despite the rain)
3. An audiobook I’m enjoying
4. Focusing on work (and it being interesting work I like)
5. Finally hoovering

Day 43 of reading a short story every day.

Today I read What If?, the final story in Kate Atkinson’s collection Normal Rules Don’t Apply.

My favourite of the collection, by a long way, was The Void.

Gender criticals: "Listen to women! Unless you're Girlguides or the Women's Institute or you disagree with the male judge who wrote this decision or if you don't 'look like a woman' or if you're a trans man because then you're definitely a man."

Everyone will suffer from this madness. Everyone.

Today’s anxiety: I’m going to a sauna with friends this evening. I’ve never been to a sauna other than as part of a spa (and even that I found awkward). Anything with unfamiliar etiquette makes me very very anxious. Meanwhile my friends are very enthused!

Today’s park reading weather: post-rain sun

Unfortunately, someone is sat on my usual bench. This is fine and not at all upsetting.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 180:
Conversation isn't the only way in which your characters express themselves. Movements, avoidance, deflection, jokes, silence, variations in speed, changing the subject, refusal to engage - all of these can sometimes express more than mere words communicate.

Today’s anxiety: my partner doesn’t know where (or when) he wants to go for his birthday dinner.
I want it booked and worry places will book up. He isn’t fussed. I’m literally stressing him out about HIS birthday because my anxiety is an idiot

Today has been mostly ‘urgh’ with some optimism thrown in.

Things that have helped:

1. Getting outside for a brisk walk (to fight that weird anger feeling)
2. Finally ordering a SAD lamp (and crossing my fingers it’ll help)
3. Tea (multiple and with biscuits)

I have finally ended the annual ‘should I buy a SAD lamp’ debate by actually buying a SAD lamp.
Here’s hoping the outcome is me berating myself for not doing this years ago

1. Morning cuddles
2. A brisk walk
3. Pain au chocolat and latte
4. Reading a brilliant book in the park with the sun shining
5. Showing up to write (even if I didn’t get much done)

Today’s writing session has been more of a ‘show up’ session with no real writing being achieved. Some stuff did get done, just not writing.

I am solidly in hibernation mode at this point and that’s okay.
