Hello new Bluesky arrivals, if you somehow stumbled across me, I’m Luke, I make video games. I worked on a bunch of RPGs in Japan for about a decade, then came back to Canada where I now work on western RPGs. I post about game dev stuff, signal boost friends’ projects, and post photos of my cat.

Manuals are a lost artifact of gaming. I sometimes wonder if anyone ever read the instruction booklet/manual I made for MythForce. It’s right there on the Steam page but I get the feeling it’s just “invisible” there. We even updated it with the latest gameplay overhaul.

It's really funny that The Art of War is treated as this like alpha male book when it's clearly meant to be read by ancient Chinese failsons because it's all "please don't forget you have to feed your troops" and "if someone asks if you're going to attack them consider lying about it"

I don't think most Westerners get how weird Judgment feels if you lived/grew up in Japan in the late '90s/early 2Ks. I know he's a serious actor now but Kimura Takuya is still the Justin Timberlake of Japan to me, having been in high school in SMAP's boy band era.

Playing FF Tactics for the first time? Here’s a tip. Go to Mandalia Plain. You’re gonna spend 5 miserable hours having all your characters power up like goku next to a terrified bird or have them throw rocks at each other until they’re max level. This is the best game ever made btw.

Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.

This doesn’t absolve anyone for fucking up, though. It’s on you to learn how and why you fucked up so you can see it coming and hopefully get practiced enough not to fuck up later. And to the above, hiding a fuck-up is far worse than fucking up. Own your shit.

So cut people some slack if they do fuck up. Good people will already beat themselves up about it and try to make things right, no need to get some punches in of your own. Especially if you’re a leader. If you blow up at mistakes, people won’t stop fucking up, they’ll just hide fuck-ups from you.

Nobody truly has their shit together. You’ll get good at some things but you’ll never stop fucking up even simple things you haven’t practiced from time to time. Anyone trying to convince you they’re not at least a bit of a mess is likely trying to sell you something and is probably untrustworthy.

Absolutely. If you’re in your forties and finally starting to take your health seriously (like me), get compression knee braces for exercise. If they’re hurting, you’re already in the danger zone.
