Greetings Matthew,

Please accept our apology for the disruption. We appreciate you bringing the volume to our attention.

The Live View Technology (LVT) unit is part of a four-week pilot program. It was placed near Rockland Trust Plaza in the Canal District for two weeks and recently moved to the area between Green St and the Franklin St bridge. Location selection was based on concentrated areas of illegal activity as the main focus of the unit is to deter open drug use and other illegal activity in and around the Canal District. Aside from surveillance, there is a feature to evaluate whether playing classical music may increase the success of said deterrence, a strategy that has reportedly been effective elsewhere. The volume is adjustable and will be evaluated to ensure that there is no unintended disruption to the residential community. The pilot program is ends on October 10.

The Worcester Police Department and municipal leadership are working hard to deploy technologies and strategies that have effective outcomes and meet the needs of the entire residential and business community.
