I keep wanting to say something, and I keep not knowing what to say.

The trans community does not harm cis people by existing. They are just trying to live their lives, same as anyone else. That life doesn't look exactly like mine; my life doesn't match anyone else's. That's okay.

Wake Up Dead Man definitely rewards a second viewing. Everything is there on display, but the first time you watch it you don’t necessarily realise what you’re seeing

Wake Up Dead Man, here we come. Again. Mulled mead on hand this time, though! (And our sofa is far more cosy than the cinema)

So much this
2025 came in like a lion and is going out like a toddler making up the rules to a boardgame they’re forcing you to play

That final editing pass took longer than hoped for. As is always the case, things slowed down after lunch when I got to the final few sections because they've had the least editing. /1

Popped out briefly to collect something and narrowly avoided a winter shower. The wind is gusty and cold, the sky that high, bright blue you only get in winter

You do not become a world builder by reading everything everyone else has to say about world building. You do it by the actual act of creating, the continuous and dedicated practice of the skill. You fail, you learn, you create again. This is what makes you a world builder.

World building fails and collapses under the weight of too many theories, too many imported ideas. World building is an emotional response to the engine of your imagination as much as an intellectual response. Make yourself continually in service to your world by actually building it and feeling it.

It needs to be said more often that the world is a better, more beautiful and more enriching place BECAUSE trans people are a part of it.

A fitting end to the week as we plunge into the 1980s - and one of my favourite games ever because I love me some historical detail.

I’ve always been a very organised person but exhaustion, suspected long Covid, and the perimenopause have seriously messed that up. It basically means that I am nowhere near prepared for Christmas. At least I finally got the last of the cards written out this evening

There goes another contract, so time to answer some emails and hopefully get back to editing asap

We were having really good fun with the Miskatonic Playhouse and The Viscount Who Left Me until technical difficulties stopped play. We’ve grown so accustomed to being able to talk to people half a planet away with relative ease that it feels odd when communications break down like that. /1

More contracts, more editing, and a livestream today. I’d forgotten it was a livestream, so I’m going to have to put some grown-up clothes on for it and look vaguely presentable

What you don't want when you get back to your desk after a convention is for your computer to engage in a go slow. I think it's either Adobe in general or Photoshop in particular that's buggering things up, although a lot of things that aren't even open seem to be eating a lot of memory

It was always clear that the UK government would ignore the results of its AI survey if it didn’t get the answer it wanted. So much of the UK’s economy relies on its creative talent and yet Starmer’s clueless mob are determined to undermine that at every turn

What you don’t want when you get home from a trip away and really need a cuppa before bed is to discover that your fridge has done one of its periodic, deeply inconvenient defrosts and the bottom of it is full of water that needs mopping up before the kettle can go on

Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

Rob Reiner either made your favorite movie, or made somebody you know’s favorite movie. If you’re a Californian, he’s also part of the reason you or your friends can get married. He has changed more lives for the better than this asshole commenting on him ever did.

Ah, Schiphol; so near and yet so far. We were pleasantly surprised to see various coffee shops still open as we made our way to our gate, where I know there's a coffee shop that usually stays open much later than those elsewhere. Nope, not anymore. And now we can't get back to the open ones

🚨 The UK government just published a breakdown of the responses to its consultation on AI & copyright:

- 95% of respondents want AI companies to pay for their training data (made up of 88% saying strengthen copyright law, & 7% saying leave it as is)
