To argue about socialism is complicated as it very much depends on how one defines socialism. However, the rich capitalists are not serving our welfare and are destroying our habitat and our planet. So, there is no benefit to capitalism that justifies that side effect.

If I had to label myself, I would label myself as a Democratic Socialist. But current events like congress condemning socialists just makes me decide to be labeled a socialist. Whatever system we are currently under has got to go.

I think that it is true that everything is a distraction from the fact that capitalism is destroying the world and is behind most of the societal and environmental problems we talk about.

Cars are toys and have been that way for a long time. Coincidentally, people use their toys to get around badly. They are not sold as ways to get around but to entertain. And they don't even do that well. Since they are valued toys, people will give them up from their cold, dead hands.

Last night, my town closed down parts of our main street for Halloween. This has been going on for decades. The street and sidewalks were flooded with people walking and loving it. Closing down this portion of the street didn't make the earth stand still but we won't do it permanently.

What is the purpose or promise of AI? Productivity? Productivity always promises rewards for everyone but primarily rewards the employers of capital and labor. I think, however, that AI may ultimately reward these people with no customers.
