I cannot think of a worse punishment than moving from lush, green, temperate Seattle to the hot and dry hell hole of Sin City. Couldn't happen to nicer people.

(Also, anybody else think it weird the Seattle Times is running boosterism for Las Vegas while constantly shitting on their home town?)
‘Full-scale migration of wealth’: Rich Washington and California residents flocking to Las Vegas
Finances are driving high-net-worth individuals and families to seek out less regulated states and the Las Vegas Valley is one of the direct benefactors of this.

Yeah, sure, it’s probably the billionaire thing, but part of me thinks Trump wants to block this bridge in order to prevent Americans from escaping to Canada.
A billionaire family that owns a bridge crossing between Michigan and Canada has wanted Trump to stop a new bridge — and Trump is now threatening to block its opening (with authority he doesn’t have). www.nytimes.com/2026/02/09/u...

A decade from now Republicans will be VERY angry at Democrats for doing all the horrible things that Trump did.

It's dope that it's an annual tradition now that the super bowl halftime show makes republicans extremely angry. We should just keep doing this
Absolutely delicious.

Rita and I are now sitting in a parked car atop Seward Park as far from the maddening noise as possible, blaring Beatles music on the speakers. Please somebody tell us when it’s safe to return.
It’s only halftime and the Seahawks are only up by 9 points and somebody in my neighborhood has already set off fire works and my dog says “THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!!”

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

I've written about the overarching post story, causes, underlying pattern. But the failure of Lewis or Bezos to even show up, literally or figuratively, on a day of devastating cuts epitomizes the profound lack of character and accountability that is so common place today within the American elite.

One of the richest men in the world fired them from the paper and didn’t even pay to ensure they got home.

Say what you want about the horrors wreaked by Milton Friedman, but he was dead on right when it came to his theory of change:

“Only a crisis—actual or perceived—produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around.”

And yet Danny still tries to bothsides this:

"This is what happens when one side’s not even in the game. You don’t have to worry about getting beat, so it calcifies political thinking — on the right and on the left."

There's no comparing Ds to the Rs because only one side believes in democracy.

The truth is, the WA GOP isn't attempting to win state elections because it doesn't believe it has to (or should have to) win elections to wield power. They're counting on Trump subjecting blue cities and states to authoritarian rule, and then scooping up the spoils.
The humiliation of the WA GOP is not yet complete
Does the WA state GOP want to win elections in 2026? Because lately it's been sounding more like an internet troll than a serious political outfit.

on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.
