Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

I hate it so much. It was really an eye-opener to learn more about the BMI and the “standards” it was trying to set and how faulty a tool it really is. The knowledge has helped me not to put so much stock in that number…but doesn’t so much blunt the hurt/anger when it’s flung at you.

Yo, I’m truly so sorry you dealt with that too. It’s hellacious. And it’s like…I’ve had cramps for 20+ years at this point, I know the difference!

Gastritis is def on my list of possible causes. Hope you’ve found a good way of managing all that, and a medical team you trust.

I cried. This provider was genuinely horrified and spent more than 30 minutes with me, validating every “this isn’t right” feeling I’ve had over the years.

It shouldn’t be this much of a relief to find a health care provider who wants to understand rather than judge.

Unfortunately, 3 years down the road, I’m starting this dx process from a “less well” position. I could’ve gotten a second opinion but what if it was just the same shitty advice? Another $40 copay down the drain.

I finally saw a provider who looked at my chart and asked “have you been dismissed?”

My pediatrician growing up was AWFUL about my weight, and it’s given me lifelong anxiety about doctors. I spent years unlearning toxic advice abt losing weight, only for a medical professional to parrot it back to me.

Except, as an adult, I could choose not to go back…

Three years ago, I went to see a gastroenterologist for repeated bouts of extreme nausea and vomiting. She told me it was caused by my BMI. Then suggested I eat <[redacted] # of calories to do so.

I’m only just re-starting the process to figure out what’s wrong w me. 1/

The more I think about Perfidia and Deandra, specifically, the more frustrated I become.

The only reason Perfidia doesn't feel like a complete caricature is because Teyana Taylor imbues her with meaning the script doesn't give her. Deandra just...disappears. Is she dead? The movie doesn't care!

This is absolutely a large reason I could not enjoy this movie on a critical level. The treatment of Black women revolutionaries was so underwritten, I was wondering if I was seeing the same movie as everyone gushing about how revolutionary it was…

I saw One Battle After Another and did not enjoy it. I am clearly the outlier but I thought the sexual politics of the film were bad. The representation of Black women revolutionaries was painful and I think the fixation on interracial sex and a mixed race character is a hackneyed trope.

I think I may dislike this movie the more I think about it. Timely, sure, but actually sharp and incisive in what it’s saying about this time, not so much.

I just watched ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER and it was beautifully shot and well made but ugh I actually really disliked a lot about the movie’s narrative, point of view (scattershot as it was) and character treatment.
