Masley: 'the most massive of massive errors in a book I've ever seen'

Naomi Wolf: 'hold my beer'
There's a typo in @karenhao.bsky.social's 'Empire of AI' book around water consumption for one data centre, and she's already working on a correction.

But what stuns me is effective altruist Andy Masley here saying "In reality, it's 22% of the city's water" as if that's fine????

THAT'S A LOT

Just read @graphicmatt.com's City Hall Watcher (always so great and a needed witty take on the disaster that is Toronto) and I look forward to his launching of a hot air balloon, perhaps to have a bird's eye view of City Hall...?

What a horror story about women having zero rights over their own lives.

One "condition" allowing them to live where they want is to cease all social media posting, essentially cutting them off from the rest of society, one that is already having to smuggle care to them.

F that noise.

I can still sing the whole theme song.
you can immediately clock WKRP fans just by seeing whose face lights up with these 10 little words: "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
“WKRP In Cincinnati” premieres 47 years ago today — a show that creator Hugh Wilson based on radio staff he knew from his days in advertising.

“Every call letter that I ran through my mind was already taken,” he said. “I think WKRP was not taken because it can be said that it spells ‘crap.'”

At this point, I'm ready to wrap a bunch of sticks in colourful twine and give that as gifts, I'm so averse to tech these days.

Pretty much every new gadget is a surveillance tool for the wealthy to get wealthier, and the poor to become more marginalized.
Christmas is coming, and the Black Friday sales signal we’re in peak gift-buying season.

When you’re picking out gifts for friends and family this year, there’s a whole slew of tech products that are better to avoid. I put together a guide to help you through it.

Sad to hear of Kier's passing. He was such a unique one, with such a strong screen presence. And those eyes.

Swan Song is a sweet film.

I have never experienced so many people (all on foot) than I have when in Madrid markets over Christmas. Back to back to back pedestrians.

And such a lovely vibe.

'AI will solve climate change, poverty, cancer, racism and and and' but we still don't even have a universal bus pass.
As fewer places take cash, there really should be an alternative form of payment for casual transit riders.

I know why Presto isn’t province wide, but I wish it was. Windsor, like Guelph and Waterloo Region, has its own fare card.

Considering the theatre experience has turned to utter trash, I would totally do this. This is a way better 'dinner and a movie' night.

This is nothing but trolling by the Alberta govt. How gross.
The Alberta government putting out a statement for Trans Day of Remembrance two days after using the Notwithstanding Clause to override trans kids rights feels like parody at this point

"Our government remains a dedicated partner of transgender Albertans.”

This article reads like an outline for mid C20th sci-fi dystopia.
“The Sam Altman-founded company behind the ‘Orb,’ a volleyball-sized metal sphere that scans irises to prove people's humanity, had a message for employees: work weekends and ignore anything outside your job — for the good of humanity.”
Sam Altman's eye-scanning Orb startup told workers not to care about anything outside work
Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania said that "if you should care about something else, and if you want something else, you should just not be here."

I will die never being able to comprehend how stupidity, malice, and purposeful ignorance are winning tactics for politicians. The theory that politicians are 'representative' is garbage when those same ppl overwhelmingly decide 'what's best for us', charter rights be damned.
@melwoods.me: We must not overcomplicate what’s going on here.

This is the Alberta government saying the rights of trans kids to receive life-saving health care, go by their own pronouns at school or play on sport teams don’t matter as much as the Smith government’s right to dictate their lives.

Does this means all those 50 Shades books will be pulled from the UK?
The UK is looking at possibly criminalizing a staggering number of things related to adult speech and conduct. This would be devastating for sex workers, and anyone who even tangentially supports us.
One bit would make it pimping to allow sex work ads (up to 10 years in prison) or facilitate prostitution in any way, even for no personal gain

Another would define adult performers pretending to be under 18 as child porn

There's more, too. Check it out here reason.com/2025/11/12/m...

Even in THEIR OWN AD, Charlie at the end looks like he’s thinking, “This is sad and weird.” Promising people you can prevent feelings of loss is not only ridiculous; it’s perverse. Sad things and happy things need each other. This company is promising numbness.
This is possibly the most fucked thing I've ever seen but also the bit at the end where the grandmother is straight up being tricked into providing training content for the app feels particularly revealing.
