I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.
And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

one of my sort of recurring Themes that I care about in history is: when we change the name of a place (a room, a street, a house, a website) is how long people do the "Gamma, formerly known as Delta" thing. it varies a lot and is really interesting to me
It's quite funny that my institution has decided to renumber all its rooms lately, but doesn't give out a nice concordance upon doing so. So if you've written down an old-style room number, it's basically impossible to work out what that would be now.

I do seem to keep having conversations that revolve around - if the world is going to be split between the US and China, which half do we want to be in? (for the terrifyingly short time before we hit the biophysical tipping points that push us over the edge of the 6th mass extinction...)
Trump is making the world fall in love with China? Or just that his various threats and bluster are continuing the existing trend of countries seeing China as more of a model.

In every photo I see, every time, I cannot get over the fact that they’re all wearing masks. Police don’t wear masks. Everyday soldiers don’t wear masks. Thugs, criminals and special forces (ie those from whom swift violence is expected) conceal their faces. The signal could not be clearer.

The Insurrection Act is not "martial law." It doesn't displace civilian law, it doesn't suspend habeas corpus, it doesn't alter or suspend state and local government, and it doesn't make anything newly illegal. It allows using the military to enforce existing law, it doesn't change what the law is.
