What a shock, a mayor who doesn’t care about the vulnerable who may be affected by this budget continues not to care. Who could’ve seen this coming? /s

Do Canadian MPs actually connect with the public on X?

I looked at RTs and views for every tweet* sent by Liberal MPs yesterday

Out of 46 tweets, 21 Liberal MPs racked up a combined 475 retweets

34% had zero RTs. Only 17% got more than 10 RTs

3 tweets accounted for over half of all engagement

It’s as much a problem of “can’t “ as “won’t.” If only Canada would fudging invest in Canada, in Canadians, to have capable infrastructure for these things.
THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS: WE DON’T WANT TO F*CKING PAY FOR THEM LIKE ADULTS.
"We don't have the infrastructure to be able to take up an investigation, to be able to levy fines or to ban social media companies," said Kaitlynn Mendes, a professor in inequality and gender at Western University "This is a huge problem."
Canada won't ban X. But experts say it has few other options
Elon Musk is applauding the federal government after Canada's minister of AI announced the country will not ban X or Musk's AI over the tech's snowballing "nudification" problem.

It’s almost like they’re seizing on a distraction of some sort… hmm.
Pretty willd how the DOJ just straight up stopped releasing the Epstein files even though they're legally obligated to do so.

An Austrian NATO official sent a blunt warning to Washington: Touch Greenland & Europe seizes US bases.

Gunther Fehlinger says if the US annexes Greenland, every American base in Europe—from Germany to Italy to Romania—would be confiscated, ending decades of U.S. military power on the continent.

NEW: Court records obtained by @wired.com show that an FBI agent's testimony contradicted claims Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who killed Renee Nicole Good, made under oath in December; the testimony also raises questions about Ross following his training. This is by @hudsongiles.bsky.social and me:
FBI Agent’s Sworn Testimony Contradicts Claims ICE’s Jonathan Ross Made Under Oath
The testimony also calls into question whether Ross failed to follow his training during the incident in which he reportedly shot and killed Minnesota citizen Renee Good.

Breaking NYT:

The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status.

That is a war crime called "perfidy."

ICE’s murder of Renee Good has been a clarifying moment — and not only for Americans.

It also exposed some Canadians.

Notably, the Toronto Sun’s Ottawa bureau chief — who called the ICE bullets fired at Good “well-deserved.”

Let’s talk Canadian media the impact of who has a platform:

Funny how that works out. But hey, Trudeau bad… grr!
For some reason Brookfield Asset Management always gets left out of this - they gave $250 million USD to the purchase of X/Twitter.
It was run by Mark Carney at the time, who is now Canada's Prime Minister.

Totally. It is shameful that Canada won't ban Twitter for 92837 reasons but it's also a total self-own because Twitter bots have done election interference before and they'll do it again.
Shamefull.. and quite stupid when you know that X will campaign vigously and use their bot army against them at the next elections (also in the UK and France)

Not pissing off Elon Musk and Canada’s right-wing tech bros is far more important to Evan Solomon than protecting Canadians from deepfake sexual abuse and acting on child sexual abuse material.
The concept of posting “Canada is not considering a ban of X” as a QUOTE of your post condemning deepfake sexual abuse happening **ON X** of women and kids………….

I will accept no moral high ground from a government that refuses to ban a platform that is actively, in real time, right in front of our faces, creating child sexual abuse materials.

They're not banning it and there are still government departments with official Twitter accounts.

Fuck Carney.

When Charlie Kirk was assassinated and a health insurance CEO was killed, Republicans were immediately calling for the death penalty. When an ICE agent murdered Renee Good point blank, these same people had the nerve to pretend the innocent victimdeserved it. What’s wrong with this picture?
