I'm not speaking to everyone all the time. But it's funny seeing people who clearly *do* understand "USian," are annoyed by it, and are rationalizing their annoyance through a hypothetical baffled reader. It seems to me "USian" has communicated something very successfully!

This may be hard to get your head around, but I change the language I use depending on the circumstances. Baffling hypothetical, though—do you instead announce yourself as an "American" abroad? Do you think they don't know?

I've not really had that issue, though there is something particularly USian about endlessly projecting your own inflexible incomprehension onto others

Tbh I'd only previously seen it as a sometimes convenient disambiguation but annoying all these people is an increasingly compelling bonus
