This morning I felt a little sadness when I remembered that many of the colleagues I wished to share something dear to my heart with, had departed from X.

@msahsorin.bsky.social and I would love to know what people think of the Energy Resistance Principle (ERP)

🚨How do mitochondria sense and respond to metabolic stress from the environment in diabetes? 🤔

In new work out in #ScienceAdvances, we show that innate immune signaling promotes β cell compensation for metabolic stress by engaging mitophagy. 🚨1/n

Without resistance there can be no transformation of anything into anything else. Like a beaming photon in outer space.

But with too much resistance, energy cannot flow, damage accumulates, and we die. Like electrons trying to flow in a defective mitochondrion.

Excellent framework to understand the processes favoring health vs disease based on the Energy Resistance Principle. Makes me wonder whether the shape of this inverted-U curve, or linked parameters, are trait-like across individuals. Congrats @martinpicardenergy.bsky.social & @msahsorin.bsky.social

One of my most exciting & frame-shifting papers to date.

The Energy Resistance Principle shows how resistance to energy shapes the dynamics of life and health.

A new lens to understand & optimize energy across the lifespan, inspiring tools that sense & tune the body’s energetic architecture.

GDF15 is one of the most fascinating hormones. Discovered separately in different fields, linked to energy and aging, and the best predictor of morbidity and mortality in humans.

GDF15 is also induced by mental stress: linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii...

We'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and questions.

Please join us for a X space discussion on Oct 21. Maybe we need to use a different platform in the future...

Too much resistance, your energy cannot flow easily, you feel tired, become inflamed, age faster, and get sick more easily. When éR is too high, we die.
martinpicardenergy.bsky.social
ERP's key idea is that we live in a narrow zone of energy resistance (éR). For energy to transform into metabolites, cells, organs, and thoughts, it needs to run through éR. Too little resistance, you would burst into flames.

The ERP is a quantitative framework that can be used to understand some profound things that we know matter for our health:

We are grateful for the dozens of colleagues, friends, and lab members who have contributed to sharpening the ideas, concepts, and definitions in the ERP.

The ERP bridges physics and biology, providing a first-principles understanding of the central force behind health and disease dynamics.
