Mike Johnson comes out against additional guardrails on ICE as Democrats call for it.

“I think there's a lot of Democrats playing games right now with national security and with law enforcement. And I think it's dangerous. Ice is doing what ice is designed to do by its very name.”

I posted previously about how I started using #PreTeXt to build and organize my syllabus. Here's a longer writeup where I describe that process and the file organization in more detail. This is a good first project to try if you're interested in using #PreTeXt!

First day of classes went really well, good vibes all around. If nothing else, I’m grateful to have wonderful bright and curious students to explore math with.

Good morning to everyone starting classes or prepping to start classes soon. I found this Canvas setting was automatically turned on, so you might need to check if you have to turn it off manually in your classes as well.

Going to try to log off for the weekend. Classes start on Monday and I need to clear my head a bit before then. If you see me doing something on here before then, please spray me with some water and sternly tell me to care for myself ❤️

I re-wrote my syllabi in #PreTeXt last semester, and it's been great to have an html version for accessibility and also a decent pdf for archiving, but also it finally made me structure the source files. Updating things this semester has been so much easier!

Sure excited to head back to campus tomorrow, where I get yelled at by a guy with a gun when I tell him to stop smoking on the smoke-free campus, and with this information alone I'll bet you can guess his profession.

I am impeaching Secretary Kristi Noem, who is an incompetent leader and a disgrace to our democracy.

She wreaked havoc in the Chicagoland area and has brought her reign of terror to Minneapolis. One of her rogue ICE agents shot and killed an innocent woman today. It must come to an end.

I don't think I will go to JMM next year but if any friends are, I'd love to meet up with you and hang out for a bit!

I will forget about this until too late next year, so feel free to remind me!
And that's a wrap on #JMM2026. Thank you to all our attendees, presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, and all venue staff members. We will see you in Chicago in 2027!
