To be fair, it kinda lost some credibility when Kissinger got it.

The irony is that both Trump and MAGA are too dumb to realize that, were Trump to be awarded the Nobel, it would immediately lose its value and no longer be an honor to receive.

The fact that one in four Americans thinks this heap of shit deserves the Nobel Peace Prize is staggering.

I agree with the 76% of Americans with common sense who believe trump does NOT deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

How about YOU? 🤚

What's the betting that Trump will threaten to invade Norway when he doesn't get the Nobel Peace Prize?

The question is not whether the gov't can 'afford' to supply free school meals. The key questions are: Is enough food available? Can it be supplied to schools? Are there people and facilities to cook and serve it? Ideally fresh, local food. And imagine the boost to farmers, suppliers, caterers etc.

This is the sort of nonsense we have to endure when we misunderstand and misrepresent the purposes of taxation. We need to tax the rich to help curb their disproportionate power and tackle damaging inequality. It is *not* to raise money and, in that respect, it harms no-one if a rich person leaves.

Starmer faces cabinet revolt over tax rises that could drive wealthy away. Ridiculous.

Capital gains, dividends taxed at lower rates than wages.

Poorest 20% pay higher proportion of income in tax than the richest 20%.

16m live in poverty. Millions rely on food banks.

End tax perks of the rich.

Also, to correct Corcoran:
There's no such thing as a taxpayer funded breakfast. There's no such thing as a taxpayer funded anything. It's a breakfast paid for by the government using the power of our sovereign fiat currency, paid in the same way as all government spending.

Stop saying that activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla were "detained" by Israel, for fuck's sake. They were fucking kidnapped, humiliated and tortured.
matt72423.bsky.social
On the day that Reeves said "I will always be a friend of Israel", that entity's military has illegally attacked British citizens in international waters. I wonder what her colleagues in government are doing about it.

Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss Gaza peace plan at the White House – US politics live
US president to push Israeli prime minister to agree to new framework to end war in Gaza and free remaining hostages held by Hamas Hello and welcome to the US politics live blog. My name is Tom Ambrose and I will be bringing you all the latest news lines over the next hour or so. We start with news that Donald Trump will host Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, with the US president pushing a Gaza peace proposal after a slew of western leaders embraced Palestinian statehood in defiance of American and Israeli opposition. More than 100,000 federal workers are to formally resign on Tuesday, the largest such mass event in US history, as part of a Trump administration program designed to make sweeping cuts to the federal workforce. With Congress facing a deadline of Tuesday to authorize more funding or spark a government shutdown, the White House has also ordered federal agencies to draw up plans for large-scale firings of workers if the partisan fight fails to yield a deal. Donald Trump has reversed course and is purportedly planning to host a bipartisan gathering of the top four US congressional leaders at the White House on Monday afternoon in a last-ditch effort to avoid a looming government shutdown, the House speaker and the US president’s fellow Republican, Mike Johnson, said on Sunday. The indictment of former FBI director James Comey is part of a concerted effort by Donald Trump to “rewrite history” in his favor, a former senior White House lawyer claimed on Sunday as he warned of more retribution to come for the president’s political opponents. The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, announced on Sunday that he was abandoning his faltering bid to win re-election, just over a month before election day. Adams, who was trailing in the polls, was elected as a Democrat but ran for re-election as an independent after he was indicted on federal corruption charges, which were then dropped by the Trump administration in exchange for his cooperation on immigration raids. Children, including the very young, have been spending weeks or months in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) detention facility in a remote part of Texas where outside monitors have heard accounts of shortages of clean drinking water, chronic sleep deprivation and kids struggling for hygiene supplies and prompt medical attention, as revealed in a stark new court filing. This is where we are now. Where are the politicians to call this out? Or do they not want to upset their right wing base?

I remember the halcyon days when the government would introduce legislation in Parliament to be debated and voted on, rather than announced in the Daily Telegraph.

Genuine question, cos I don't know the answer: Was the British government's plan for ID cards announced in Parliament and will it be debated and voted upon there?

I'd like to ask the UK government what it is doing to protect UK citizens, and citizens of our allies, who are participants in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, and are being attacked in international waters by Israeli forces, in a flagrant violation of International Law.

...fiscal activities of spending money into the economy and taxing money out of the economy, the so-called 'deficit', is not the important consideration: it never is. What matters is what happens in society, in the economy, in the World that the government is there to serve and protect. 3/3
