Congratulations to all the bankers, hedge-fund managers, private-equity honchos, tech titans, corporate executives and op-ed writers for backing the man who will do more to undermine the system that made them insanely wealthy than any other presidential candidate in their lifetimes.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the US central bank had been served grand jury subpoenas from the Justice Department threatening a criminal indictment, a dramatic escalation of the Trump administration’s attacks on the Fed.

Just the nuke economy and let’s get this wrapped up.
“The U.S. attorney’s office in the District of Columbia has opened a criminal investigation into Jerome H. Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, over the central bank’s renovation of its Washington headquarters and whether Mr. Powell lied to Congress about the scope of the project…”

Chris and Matt unpack the US capture of Nicolás Maduro—what happened, why it matters, and how it tests sovereignty and precedent. Then the death of Aldrich Ames and the damage of betrayal inside the CIA.

I think they need to.
Kaine: "I can tell you this -- we will force a vote in the Senate about no US military action in Greenland or Denmark if we need to. We will get overwhelmingly bipartisan support that this president is foolish to even suggest this."

There's two things I've noticed in my career that bring out the absolute worst in people, if you put "money", or a "gun" in the hands of a weak man, they absolutely lose their fucking minds the "power" goes to their head, and they do not know how to control themselves.

It may have taken three decades, but I’m happy to report I’m now at least competent with chop stocks.

Out tomorrow on @secretsandspies.bsky.social—this one took a little longer on the edit. We talk Venezuela, why alliances are good actually, and the demise of Aldrich Ames.

DHS comms sounding like the Turner Diaries again.
“We’ll Have Our Home” again is a song that’s extremely popular with white nationalists. It’s all over Telegram. I think the first time I heard it was from a video of a secretive group called the Mannerbünd.

Trump’s reality check on Venezuela oil:

He rolled out the red carpet for Big Oil at the White House, bragged about reviving Venezuela’s oil and pushing for $100 billion in U.S. investment.

Exxon’s chief flat-out called Venezuela “uninvestable” without massive legal and commercial changes.

One more thing: If Trump does seize Greenland, it *will* be a strategic necessity—because it’ll be the farthest east the United States will be able to project force for a century.

This is my semi-professional analysis.
I need log off today, but I think joining the ICC and delivering people to The Hague in 2029 would do marvels for our reputation abroad.

How does he propose Russia or China would take and hold Greenland?
Trump: "If we don't take Greenland, you're gonna have Russia or China as your next door neighbor. That's not going to happen."

I actually love this idea. They’d go apeshit if Maddow-pilled wine grannies showed up in “Don’t tread on me” merch.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with the Gadsen Flag and I think right wing assholes have claimed it as their own for long enough
"guy with a don't tread on me flag dresses up as a nameless agent of state power and rains lethal force on someone who mildly inconvenienced him" is the last few decades of that flag wrapped in a single murder

Trump: "You should get the Nobel Prize for every war you stop. These were major wars. These were wars that nobody thought could be stopped. President Putin called me and he said about two of the wars he's been trying to stop them for 10 years, he wasn't able to do it."

Shows you how cosmically high on their own supply they are that they thought this would help.
The White House’s rapid response account has posted video of ICE agent Jonathan Ross shooting Renée Nicole Good in the head and then calling her a “fucking bitch.”

So to return to this: Mussolini had 200,000 blackshirts for the March on Rome in a country of ~35m. Hitler had 400,000 brownshirts in 1932 in Germany for a population of ~60m.

So around 0.6% of the population.

0.6% of 340m Americans is just over 2 million.

They do not have enough goons.
In 1932, on the eve of seizing power, the Nazi goon army - the Sturmabteiling or SA - numbered 400,000 members. By 1933, it was over two *million.*

DHS has 240,00 employees and lot of those are non-goons who have, you know, real jobs.

Apparently the public is paying attention since "oil" is what the President keeps saying its about, even if not what Rubio or DOJ say in official diplomatic and legal statements.

"Grabbing oil" is also a considerably less popular justification than stopping drugs or gangs

Pope Leo has a chance to do the funniest thing of all time.
Editorial in the National Catholic Reporter: "The vice president's comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith. His repeated attempts to blame Good for her own death are fundamentally incompatible with the Gospel."
Catholic Vice President Vance takes to social media to justify killing of Renee Good
After the tragic shooting of Renee Good at the hands of ICE, the Catholic vice president of the United States took to social media to justify the killing.
