One reason I've been so bearish on the Tories over the past few years is I don't see a route out for them. They can't beat Reform on the right and they've lost their liberal vote.
So - I think Kemi Badenoch is *right* that the conditions for a centre-right party are worse now than they were in, say, 2019. The territory that Reform and she are scrapping over is electorally fertile. I just don't think it is territory the Conservative party, specifically, can win on:

The United Kingdom is at its best when we’re true to our values: tolerance, decency, respect for individual freedom and the rule of law.

We can't let Nigel Farage throw that all away by turning Britain into Trump’s America.

The #Conservatives haven't been a party for centrist & moderate voters for a v long time and - despite recent efforts from the likes of Andy Street & Ruth Davidson - Kemi Badenoch has just made it absolutely clear that they will be continuing down the road of being Reform-lite... [1/2]

Jenrick saying he's "put aside personal ambition" too join Reform is the single most shameless statement I've ever heard.

If he "put aside personal ambition" he'd disappear. That's all there is.

More than a dozen Labour MPs defied their party whips & voted with @libdems.org.uk in favour of UK rejoining a #CustomsUnion with EU.

As a result, the #LibDems Ten-Minute Rule Bill passed the House of Commons with a majority of one, after the Deputy Speaker cast the deciding vote in its favour.
🚨BREAKING🚨

MPs have voted to PASS our bill to establish a UK-EU customs union.

The Prime Minister must now listen to his own MPs, drop his self-imposed red lines and finally go for proper growth through an ambitious trade deal with the EU.

Am not sure what #LibDems position on this would be if Govt went ahead in #UKbudget. But given it's small step towards rationalisation of UK property taxes & would likely create downward pressure on house prices whilst raising billions for the Exchequer, I'm hoping we'd be in favour of such a move.

Good to see @eddavey.libdems.org.uk quoted in @nytimes.com

It's highly commendable that Sir Ed led efforts in Parliament to apply pressure - aiding the King & HM Govt to evict Andrew - doing so without turning serious affair & its victims into a political football.

Sexual offences are very hard for the police to investigate well - so they need experienced officers.

Yet the Mayor and government undermine this by focusing on police numbers rather than retaining skilled police officers.
There's a huge amount in there, so I'm spreading it out for you with a chart a day for the next few weeks! For now, 3 key messages. 1) Major problem in policing is officer inexperience. Police work is getting more complex with more domestic abuse & sexual violence and forces lack skills to handle it

This is tragic. The Conservatives let Britain's health & care services fall apart, and the Labour Government is moving far too slowly! As anyone with close family with care needs already knows, we are at crisis point now - and only the Liberal Democrats have a credible plan to rescue care.
