SCOTUS is giddy to decide elections again after 25 years. I can't wait to see what logic they use to overturn CA maps when given the chance.

A lot going on here: storytelling as “piracy” and the looming threat to fan fiction from gen AI theories of infringement. Let that little kid tell himself whatever stories he wants! Also note reliance on fair use to replicate the child’s “infringing” output

It’s been in the pipeline for a minute, but the short version is: Cox lost the DMCA safe harbor for (more or less) refusing to disconnect accounts. The question then becomes, ok, they don’t have the safe harbor—but even without it, are they liable?
Why did this even make it to SCOTUS? What's the procedural history here?

Same, -50 points for an error of fact and not capitalizing the "D" in Dumpster counted because it's a trademark and the paper you might work at could face legal for trademark dilution.
One of my first journalism professors would give you a zero if you had even one error of fact. It happened to me. Sucked so much. He was one of the best professors I ever had, I took three more classes from him, and we’re still in touch

And we're off with SCOTUS arguments in Sony v Cox. The question at issue: whether ISPs can be liable for the copyright infringement committed by their users.

This is a huge win that you might have missed last week: we successfully pressured airlines to shut down their data broker, which was selling passenger data to the government without a court order. I'm going to keep at it until other industries to follow suit.
After 404 Media's months-long reporting and pressure from lawmakers, the data broker owned by the U.S.’s major airlines will now shut down a program in which it sold access to hundreds of millions of flight records to the government and let agencies track peoples’ movements without a warrant.

Alright, here I go. I know nothing about NA beverages so I tried them alone first. The Seedlip is the mezcal substitute. It's strangely got a little of that mezcal kind of squirrelliness in your throat. A little lime and agave, no smoke which makes me nervous.

Jon Gaines (Gainsec), the offensive security researcher who was featured in my recent video, lost employment today.

Jon discovered the vast majority of the vulnerabilities with Flock Safety (among many other things) on his own time, which I believe will ultimately result in Americans being safer. 🧵

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

As many of you know, a handful of Dem Sens have voted on a CR that keeps the government funded until Jan 30, which would end the shutdown. For those watching for anti-trans provisions, there are none in the CR.

Senate Vets-MilCon, Leg, Ag minibus bills for FY26 have no riders.
Dems have spent the past two months saying they're fighting to address the crisis of spiking healthcare costs and now they're caving for a deal that does nothing to address healthcare costs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
