The Mount Maunganui tragedy reminds us landslides are NZ’s deadliest natural hazard
Tragic slips in the Bay of Plenty highlight how geology, heavy rainfall and climate change are combining to amplify a largely hidden risk.

I still don't believe we've had any decent comms from the government on this, is this appeasement or what of practices of data breaches.

It is the right move but a bit too late, I honestly don't think those at ratana would have liked seeing him there. Now waitangi day in a few weeks is an actual decent chance of humanity with Maori present for him.

The Prime Minister is skipping Rātana to avoid bad publicity in an election year. He’d shown no interest in the fate of those in flood stricken areas until he needed a skip excuse.

#nzpol The Prime Minister spent longer managing his Spotify Playlists than writing that speech. Nothing new, nothing to help manage growing unemployment, more cuts signalled to government investment. That wasn't a State of the Nation - it was asking people to forget the past two years.

One can assume this was not an error given the going ons the past 2 years and the system reform bill going through parliament right now

Can confirm lots of lightning between 4-5 this morning
⚡Sparks Flew!!⚡

🤓In total over the country and surrounding waters, there were almost 18,000 lightning strikes.

There is still plenty of action around eastern Bay of Plenty Bay so Whanganui might get bumped from their podium.
