This part of our response essay is where I'm at. Boiling down all of politics to electoralism has been absolutely terrible for resisting rising authoritarianism.

“New Zealanders are crystal clear they want cheaper power and cleaner energy, and they know that hunting for more gas won’t deliver either. Propping up sunset fossil fuel industries makes no economic sense and won’t secure our energy future,” says WWF-New Zealand’s CEO, Dr Kayla Kingdon-Bebb.
New nationwide polling shows strong public support for renewable energy over fossil fuels, growing concern about New Zealand’s climate backsliding, and widespread unease that a return to offshore oil and gas exploration could expose the country to trade and legal risks wwf.org.nz/news/climate...

I am absolutely genuine when asking this:

Are there any significant economic indicators for New Zealand that are now better than they were ahead of the last election?

Inflation is lower, but was trending down heading into 2023 election, and is trending up now.

The thing is, you didn't have to be Nostradamus to see it. You just had to be independent of the ultra-rich. Unfortunately, the great majority of the media is in the plutocrats' pockets. So the people pointing it out are shunned. In 2009 I tried and tried to get the BBC to pick this up. But ...⛔🤐
1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

Are enough of us watching though? And what say our leaders? Hello…? 🦗🦗🦗
They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
Hundreds of people spelled out the distress signal "SOS" on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 30.

“We might trade on being clean and green, but Aotearoa operates one of the most linear and wasteful economies in the developed world […] less than one percent of Aotearoa generates one of the highest per-capita waste volumes in the OECD.
700-750kg pp goes to municipal landfills each year.”
NZ generates huge volumes of waste and recovers only a tiny amount. A circular economy would be a way to redesign systems, cut emissions and build resilience.
