Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

tbh I’m wondering who this “we” is because nobody I’m spending time with by choice is defending the social order they were born into, and I have an inkling about who is ? most likely I have chosen to be in a bubble but it is not small, point still stands whenever i see a “we” i’m like whooo is weee
This need for a legible social order expresses itself in what social psychologists call "system justification." We have a propensity to justify & defend the social order we are born into-- *even if we are at the bottom of that order* --because a system that makes sense is preferable to uncertainty.

always pay attention to the incentive system
It produces a performative ecosystem. Actors aren’t communicating; they’re staging provocations for yield. The result is disordered discourse: signals detached from truth, identity shaped by escalation, and a feedback loop where the performance eclipses reality itself.

happy Jair Bolsonaro got arrested after failing to cut off his ankle monitor day
"Brazil’s former far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been arrested at his villa in the capital, Brasília, amid suspicions he was poised to abscond to a foreign embassy to avoid going to prison for masterminding a military coup."

Eventually, the few who remained wandered out of the cities on foot, leaving the bots to hit each others’ buttons and empty self-driving cars circling, charging, circling, charging. Moss crept over the concrete and tall grasses sprung up through cracks, waving golden goodbyes in the wind
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

i’m fairly sure it’s by design (that they don’t know)
American culture doesn't know the rest of us exist. Mainstream media do not know there's more than a century of history of activism and theory in which our movements are grounded, and that our communities have a operated in solidarity with other Black and brown communities since the 19th century.

Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

There are indignities to living under authoritarianism, and compromises that power will demand, but there’s no excuse for seeking out, and pandering to, the worst of the transgressors.

I only ever attack poetically, tbh
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

tbh don’t know any women with advanced degrees or high achievements in my generation who didn’t suffer through shit like this
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

👀 I love surprising ethno-linguistic enclaves! Especially if the language survived despite actively adverse circumstances (such as a smattering of xenophobia or whatever 😇)
One of these pitch ideas might be of interest to linguists who are looking to write for a general audience!
