There's a cool dad at the park with a cool beard and sunglasses and a custom leather hip pouch, presumably full of dad supplies

And I stand here in head to toe Kirkland Signature and whisper "poser"

Great family story about Robert A. Heinlein getting a (deserved) slap in the Soviet Union!
mburnamfink.bsky.social
There's a family story that when my great-grandmother Grace was a tourist in the Soviet Union in 1960, she was in a small airport and oddly enough, there was another American couple there.

The plan was delayed, and the man was getting quite irate with the situation.

Heinlein is one of my favorite raconteurs who explored a lot of interesting ideas.

Unfortunately, the fixed points in his fiction are busty redheads, twins, and turning little girls into wives in a way which is technically consensual and technically not incest, but feels really squicky

Don't laugh. These are veterans of the Battle of Burgertown.

"Yes, we'd like to put in a winning bid for that WMD"

Which my assassin character then stole. I escaped by jumping through hard vacuum from a starship to a waiting space taxi

The Millennial version of this is:

"In my day people were dying from Four Loko having caffeine, and we loved it."

Which is true. We did.

There was a period of time where every night I'd put on this album and get high

Still hits via flashback, just a little. #saddadband

Kid A came out 25 years ago today. It was one of the most important albums of my life. Five years ago, I wrote this retrospective: www.stereogum.com/2094039/radi...

There's a lot of speculation about what Trump can & can't do against the left with his new executive orders. To cut thru it, I spoke with FBI counterterrorism veteran turned whistleblower Terry Albury about how he & his old colleagues use the powers they have – and what the average citizen should do

agreed.

I've got enough historical object permeance to remember what happened when Bremen fired the entire Iraqi army. Don't do that again.

but yeah, these assholes can do foot patrols around Nowhere, West Texas, alternating with winter training in North Dakota.

CHOTINER: This game you like to play, what's it called?

ME: Slay the Spire.

CHOTINER: And you play it on the computer?

ME: Yeah. Well, I also have it on my phone. I played another 300 hours.

CHOTINER: And these other games in your Steam library. Have you finished them?

ME: Now hold on a second,
