Where did we suddenly get this idea as a society that being good at a skill or a hobby should take *less* time and *less* effort? The time spent doing the thing, then tinkering with and improving the thing and in the process getting better at the thing is the enjoyable part of the exercise!

This is also how every university marketing department talks about their school.
I love when politicians say things like "The people of (insert locality here) are special because they (most generic thing you've ever heard of)."
