Thread on how to detect ai in that viral dog video
Yeah, I mean, I'm critical of any video nowadays that is trying to elicit an emotional response, especially when it's asking for subs at the end. It's weird that all the people seem to end up with the dog they want. And shelters are overflowing, where are the rooms full of people wanting to adopt?

Me, outside in 24F weather with the dogs for 10 minutes, no hat, no gloves, just a parka over a t-shirt and leggings with boots: this is nice.

Also me, sitting at a desk for more 30 minutes at 69F: why is it so cold in here?

I'm so glad I was vaccinated as a child and lived to be an adult.

I'm glad I didn't grow up with a smartphone in my hand.

I'm glad I graduated from college at a time when learning was a priority and exposure to new ideas and philosophies was the point.

When women had a shot at being President.

I had a bad case of the futility sads today. No discernible reason other than the constant bombardment of bad news and general anxiety about everything.

Watched a sappy holiday movie. Made bread to rise overnight. Stayed offline for the most part.

I need to do that more often.

Man that is NOT gonna turn out for you the way you think
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

Apropos of absolutely nothing (I got a craving), these are my favourite biscuits.

They go with everything, but especially a hearty stew or soup.

... and maybe some jam at breakfast.

We told you AI was a tool of fascism.
“School officials have created a Microsoft Copilot prompt to review course descriptions with an eye toward avoiding ‘advocacy-oriented or prescriptive terms.’”

Terms: “dismantling, decolonizing, interrogating, challenging, centering, combating, liberation, resistance, activism, justice oriented”
To Root Out Wokeness in the Course Catalog, This Texas University Is Turning to AI
“The AI was upset with my use of the phrase ‘women's rights movement.’”

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

It only took four of us making a two-minute public comment about the library at the city council meeting for the councilors to restore the funding the mayor’s office had cut.
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

it is impossible to overstate the extent to which this country is now being run by people you would leave a party rather than talk to for five minutes
they hate music, they hate art, they hate artists, they hate pop, they hate the video games they play, they hate the movies they watch, like, they're just all the worst fucking people you've ever met, none of them believe in anything

Finding the mental energy to write after a 10 hour shift in a demanding job. Believing my stories are worth telling, that the end result is worth publishing. Remaining hopeful that people will continue reading in genres filled with AI slop.

Focusing on writing over promotion now. #pretendpanel
#pretendpanel, I hope you find today's question just as engaging as yesterday's, even if the emotions might be a bit more negative surrounding the question...

Don't stay at your desk all day today. Go for a walk; touch greenery; read a book; watch a cloud; talk to someone; do something new. That's where the magic happens.

I finally know where my stalled story is going. Tonight, I described a woman in her 50s deciding to put on red lipstick because Hitler hated it, and doing so was an act of patriotism and a statement against fascism. The fact it belongs in my witchy cozy mystery is a hill I will die on. #pretendpanel
Happy December #pretendpanel! I hope you don't mind reflective questions. I'm a fan of them. But no worries if you give this month a skip, I'll understand.

After months of pulling words out of me like using a pair of rusty pliers on my teeth, I finally know where this story is going, and tonight the words flowed out of me. Not many, not great. But I'll take it.

Because this timeline has wreaked havoc with my creativity, and I refuse to let it win.
