Reminder to folks that you can get anything you want at The Map Center, even 8x10 glossy prints with a washable finish so you can draw circles and arrows on them, wipe them clean and reuse them. No need to send them to the landfill!
Also, we will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Revisiting my boss is terrible:

He told me I didn’t “challenge” or document enough in my process. It was a 2 week sprint.

I was out for 9 weeks on medical leave.

They assigned someone else to my project. Totally fine.
My boss didn’t know if we got Friday off 😑

My other new print is this guy, "Fire in My Belly." This is a design idea I've been trying to make for years, so happy to have finally gotten to make it! www.cathygjohn.net/store/fire-i...

I could use some help spreading the word.

My new little book is about two sisters who hunt down killers and collect body parts while complicating their lives with volatile magics, bizarre visions, and a mysterious mouth in the wall.

Think Junji Ito meets Little Women.

The Pluribus atom bomb scene makes me feel seen. It’s a conversation with an insane idiot. That’s what it like to live in 2025.

Sometimes being a certain kind of neurodivergent is saying to other NDs “we can only ask a friend for their unwanted furniture if we offer them food because they also have a sick parent.” And I was right.

Anyway, I’ve been up since 8am solving things and got drunk by accident at 4:30.

“Thrashed By A Lady Cyclist” is a great album name.
If women get too physically strong they'll beat the shit out of you and for that we must demonize any kind of exercise and hearty food for them

By request, here's a thread of books that I think make excellent gifts this holiday season (obviously they're cartographically inclined, you know me)

1. Best anthology
"All Over the Map" by Betsy Mason and Greg Miller
A gorgeous, full color history of maps mind-bending maps from around the world.

My mom was heartbroken when I spoiled the ending of Wicked For Good.

You know, the ending that’s from 1939.

Tell Congress to Oppose an AI Regulation Ban
This summer, congress attempted to bury a dangerous provision in what some lawmakers called the "Big Beautiful Bill." The provision would ban most states and localities from regulating AI. Thankfully,...

My dad (RIP) was USPS.

HELL YES. They are a branch of the federal government. With a better union and history than fucking ICE. USPS represent American values way better too.
A U.S. postal worker on Long Island is accused of trying to help a man escape from ICE custody earlier this month, according to a federal criminal complaint: https://gothamist.visitlink.me/YNagDp

Today’s fun: fighting with my old boss that drove my teaching career into the ground. Apparently I shouldn’t “assume” folks that support AI, Musk, and Joe Gebbia are bigoted Nazis. They’re just hanging out, being cool tech guys.

I’ve been using Scrivener and liked it. But no app is safe.
Unlike most apps these days, Scrivener does not use AI in any way. However, if you’re on a Mac, you may see an AI prompt.
