Considering gamedevs work on games more often than they breathe, a more challenging game jam premise would be to explicitly disallow game development for a week. The Literally Anything Else Jam.

TL;DR Unity -> Godot transition: after 13 years in unity, it took me 4-6 weeks of getting adjusted, and now i’ll never go back. it has quirks, like other engines. there’s bugs. but it’s free, basically equally capable, and well reported issues get fixed quicker than in unity (sometimes within hours)

I would like to not be so angry all the time. It's not good for me, it's not good for you. I wish there were not so many things making me angry.

I love a lot of modern games and appreciate their technical prowess

but nothing will ever impress me as much as the creativity that emerged under the technological restrictions in earlier games

In the span of weeks, I've gone from someone who has never used Godot, to struggling to "get" Godot, to really liking Godot, to having taught aspiring gamedevs the basics of Godot, to strongly believing Godot's workflow & structure might be the best approach to developing games for many purposes.

In a strange position where I think there are massive, massive social harms to the proliferation of AI (misinfo, deepfakes, predatory 'companions', surveillance, labour rights) but also feel the mainstream arguments against it range from unconvincing (water) to actively harmful (copyright; "soul")

I tried to do a personal budget with ChatGPT a while back and was first thrilled at how much time it saved me — until I realized it was off by $30,000

It’s cool how the “best” end scenario of genAI/AGI (for its proponents) is that we invent unprecedented ethical dilemmas difficult to comprehend, much less navigate ✨

It'd be great if this is how AI folks lose the older generations' confidence: asserting that tasks older people have done all their lives are impossible without the help of software that's existed for less than 5 years

Opened a #godot #godotengine PR today for a feature I've been thinking would be real nice: the ability to collapse groups in the Animation editor! github.com/godotengine/...
Collapse groups in animation track editor by Meorge · Pull Request #113479 · godotengine/godot
Closes godotengine/godot-proposals#10276 . This PR adds a disclosure button on the left side of each track group in the Animation tab's track editor. Clicking it hides all of the child tracks: ...
