Today is a good day to pick up Micah's book. If you don't already have these skills, let me tell you they are going to be very useful in the near future.
Here's a good book on the skills I think will be useful to journalists and citizen-researchers of the future, written by my colleague @micahflee.com

my unpopular opinion is that #adoption is not an alternative to abortion. And it is certainly not a solution to the lack of access to safe and affordable abortions. Compelling vulnerable people to relinquish their own children by ignoring their material needs is just another way to oppress them.
anyone who positions infant adoption as a poltical “safe zone” in the abortion wars is proposing to find common ground by standing on the necks of vulnerable and desperate pregnant people

Can anyone recommend me a contemporary doorstopper book (like ~ 500 pages) or something hefty?

I’d like to read something massive (or a few somethings) until the end of the year.

I started looking at old biochem textbooks w/some fondness - please help me replace that with some fiction.

I signed up for Consider This a while ago - it's a local news page that is run by one guy (who is also a professor of e-journalism, and a radio host) and it's often quite interesting to see what's going on.

i’m honestly surprised some of the weirdos haven’t tried to relegalize indoor smoking
this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

Day 7 of tricking our cat into taking antibiotics - unfortunately he’s wise to me. Not even the churrus are completely doing the job anymore.

On the third night of Hanukkah I realized I did not still have a stockpile of chocolate gelt.

You know a decade ago I made my own gelt, and wrapped it carefully in special foil. I’m absolutely not doing that this year.

You’ve come along way baby. 🙄

i don’t think people understand the interconnection of the #adoption industry, child welfare systems, and the manufacturing of orphanhood. the overwhelmingly predominant cause children’s loss of family is not death but the state. most adoptees are people whose parents are dead *in law only.*

Well, I think it’s safe to say that the speaker I was hoping would come to my bird club this year will neither respond to my email nor tell me they’re bailing.

I really appreciate busy people volunteering their time, but I wish that people could also just be honest about their ability to show up.

I'm so bored of people that are like "how could you not have known! fools!" beacuse people don't know stuff. Not everyone is eight steps ahead in cynical town.

Like, *I* personally have been in cynical town for a long time, but I'm not going to give people shit for not being as miserable as me.
