by offering a free standing bill for veterans pay. I wonder what the Ds will do next. They are turning the screws on the Rs tighter and tighter.

People just see the Dems trying to pass “veterans pay bill” and Rs blocking it from happening. Rs are in a corner. Whatever specific thing the Dems demand, the Rs saying “you first must reopen” reads like a kidnapper holding us hostage. The longer Rs hold out, the more they will have to give up.

but not responsive bc this is about the Speaker swearing in members during shutdown which follows the statute that only allows the Speaker to give the oath, there is no judge alt and there is no timeline like "must give oath w/in 30 days of certification" sucks i know

A federal statute sets out the process. It says only the Speaker can give the oath of office. There is no alternative given. There is no deadline to do it. So anyone other than the speaker swearing her in would be performative only. For ex signing the discharge petition would have no force & effect.

I really like how Sen Murray speaks authentically from the heart, she is clearly in command of what she is talking about. I also like how she is constantly evolving her message, keeping it fresh. Each time she comes from another angle & each time she hits the target perfectly reasonably.

Later is TOO LATE.
