"When That Man Is Dead and Gone" is a timely song written by Irving Berlin about the then-future death of Hitler. This performance is by Lizzy and the Triggermen:

NEW: Hundreds of judges around the country have ruled more than 4,400 times since October that President Donald Trump’s administration is detaining immigrants unlawfully, a Reuters review of court records found.

The government keeps doing it nonetheless.

Also speaking of Chris Ware, there's a new Acme Novelty Library volume coming this fall, and it'll include The Last Saturday from about ten years ago and the new Alice White chapter of Rusty Brown volume 2!

The 16 Eisner Hall of Fame nominees to be voted on this year include Jeff Smith, Colleen Doran, Chris Ware, Leonard Starr, Crockett Johnson, and (I'm sure thanks to Eddie Campbell's monograph on her) Kate Carew, among others. The top four will be inducted.

Cool seeing Boogie Nights on film & in the theater after having only seen it on DVD. I'd forgotten Robert Downey Sr. has a small part in it (the guy who owns/runs the studio where Wahlberg & Reilly cut their demo tapes). Interesting seeing this so soon after revisiting Hard Eight...

I hope that as more information comes out about the Epstein files, people feel less comfortable with making so many jokes about this sex trafficking situation involving who knows how many victims. Flippancy certainly has its place, but I don't think it's a good choice when referencing child rape.

A funny thing about scrolling through my feed here is seeing people refer to subjects I have no interest or knowledge of, like sports or video games, and they just mention names or titles or whatever that I'm sure need no context if you know the subject. But I have no idea who or what they are.

With the rights to Will Eisner's body of work being sold, now's a good time to buy any Eisner comics you want but don't yet own. In addition to The Spirit and A Contract With God, I highly recommend Will Eisner's New York: Life in the Big City, A Family Matter, and Life on Another Planet.

An inspiring thread by Chris Schweizer about making comics in black and white.
Pure b&w is the purest form of comics. Lines on a page, the absolute minimum translation from the hand of the artist to the eye and soul of the reader. No extra steps! Magnificent, gorgeous, efficient simplicity. It's a big reason that Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes resonate so deeply with its readers.
