The Lee Miller show at Tate is so rammed it's hard to see. But as an alternative, a great exhibition at the Photographers' Gallery opens today on 100 years of photo booths.

Someone uploaded Cafe Müller in its entirety to Youtube and I am grateful! The piece Pina Bausch is mostly remembered for, and rightly so. I keep telling people if they really want to understand post-war Germany, they need to see this. I have absolutely no idea why I keep telling them this.

I’m convinced the main reason Miyazaki films have a reputation for being “cozy” in the West is because he actually writes and animates long moments of quiet into his stories, whereas Western animated films are usually a nonstop parade of loud music, sounds, noises and neon colors.

Miyazaki: in this movie two young girls (one is a toddler) are uprooted from everything they know to start new lives near the rural hospital their mother is in; she is possibly dying of TB. Their dad works several hours away and they are largely unsupervised.

AI Bros: so homey! So comfy!

This was a hit when I was 3 or 4 and it‘s one of the first songs I can remember hearing on the radio.

Me too. I think it‘s because it’s so sincere.

#booksky It’s scary how prophetic this book is. It doesn’t matter if Tristero is real or not because society itself has literally gone mad. Pynchon didn’t just foresee the disinformation age, social media and Trumpism, he diagnosed the preconditions that would allow something like that to flourish.
michaelz79.bsky.social
Aye. Plus I love the early stuff, when they were still a three-piece and Carlos Peron gave them a darker edge.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

#NowWatching MEMORIES OF MURDER (2003). Director: Bong Joon Ho. Song Kang-Ho, Kim Sang-Kyung.

I haven't rewatched Bong Joon Ho's second feature & breakthrough since he became a global superstar. Serial killer procedural both satiric & devastating.
