One thing that was highlighted by the Eddie Murphy doc was how Eddie, Obama, Oprah, Jordan etc were that first generation of Black excellence post-civil rights movement. It was a bit forlorn since they were used as means to push a bootstrap ideology when they themselves were still victims of racism.

I gotta learn to recognize how people shape their political takes. I'm a dialectic materialist so I'm going to look a little deeper than what appears to be the obvious conclusion. Folks will over rely on identity politics and come to conclusions that aren't necessarily wrong but come up lacking.

I see why comedians end up gravitating to more serious roles over time because being seen as a clown when that's not who you are on a day to day has to be exhausting and hell on your psyche.

Let's be honest a lot of the more progressive movements of the 2010s weren't fleshed out and got co-opted very quickly by corporate media and social media.
2010’s feminism (4th wave) had some… moments.. when it came to sex positivity that wasn’t really flushed out well in my opinion.
In short hook up culture didn’t benefit us or really empower us like we were thinking it would.

The worst thing about pop sex positivity was how folks felt like they had to be casual when that wasn't the point and that partially let to the push back later on.
I know it’s plenty of people who tell me I need to get down with being casual.. my emotions dont work like that…and i’m not going to make it work like that either. In my relationships while it’s great temporarily… I don’t like the emotional toll.. it’s not worth it, imo. I’m cool 😂 marry me or stfu
