Idk what to say when people talk about how great things are in Portland—I deeply support their resistance and I get the messaging but I don’t think anyone would say that about LA. Things here are deeply scary and dangerous.

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

The Ka Mer group in Turkey, they protected women from honor killings and honor suicides, they were very intentional "We are not going to become cops." Itwould take 1,000 posts to get into their incredible work, but it's a really good thing to remind yourself esp if you have class/race/etc/privilege

They and the people most affected should be centered, not becoming a de facto second police force if that makes sense. I mean, talk about intelligence on the ground! The jornaleros know where ICE is staging, which street they arrive on, when they change tactics....

In some defense orgs I see people mirroring police--they drive around in their cars and look for ICE. Which is good, we need to spot the staging areas, etc. But if the core of your work isn't listening to jornaleros on what would help them both before and after raids, I think that's not good

It's more like --HOW are they hurting people, let's listen to those being harmed, and then make them safe and take the power away from those doing harm (which usually includes cough Democrats as well).

Focusing on why is deeply white to me, this idea that we need to have a deep personal understanding of why someone is fucking disgusting and horrible and IMO that's someone else's job. The Black Panthers or any community defense group wasn't sitting around wondering WHY people are racist

Was also a guy in Greenpoint incensed a local group was neutering/spaying (can we just have ONE WORD) feral cat. It was part of him being pro-life? He ended up with his own feral cat colony because he was feeding them to keep them away from the TNR folks, then HIS neighbors were pissed

There was one guy in Greenpoint who had a storefront entirely covered with post-its ranting about walk streets, I had to make a big detour around the intersection because he would run out to yell at me. While we were surrounded by a bunch of happy people shopping and walking around!

Looking at old messages on burner account, in 2023 had a wave of hate because I was going for a neighborhood walk every Monday and invited folks to join me and talk about vibes/whatever.

(Antis thought was tacit encouragement of walk streets and outdoor dining which was correct lol but sheesh)
