Last month, it was teenagers who got 8 books banned in a statewide Georgia reading bowl back into the competition. These literary heroes deserve recognition–get to meet three of these rad book-loving intellectual freedom champions.

My main contract gig is being cut, and my family responsibilities are less demanding than a few years ago. So please get in touch if you know of writing/editing/research/workshop positions, any hours, ideally remote or Ottawa. Extra points for good causes. I know it's rough out there for everyone.

I also write books, and any support for them (including library borrows and word of mouth) helps me spend more of my time writing fiction, so it is much appreciated.

I don't understand why this isn't absolutely blowing up. A whole public library system shutting down branches to remove books because the Tennessee Secretary of State believes that Executive Orders are above the Constitution.
The Tennessee Secretary of State handed public library boards that are eager to ban LGBTQ+ books–and particularly trans books–from their collections the biggest permission slip last week.

Rutherford County is *closing* libraries to remove books.

"without subjecting anyone to differential treatment."

This is flatly false! Trans people with a passport that does not match with their plain appearance when presented to a border agent is subject to additional hassle compared to a cis person presenting a passport.
NEW: On the shadow docket, the Supreme Court lets Trump resume misgendering trans Americans on their passports, claiming "the government is merely attesting to a historical fact without subjecting anyone to differential treatment." All three liberals dissent. www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

SCOTUS has granted a stay in Trump v. Orr, the trans passport case, meaning that the government will be able to once again deny gender marker changes to trans passport applicants.

This is a terrible decision with horrifying consequences for trans folks.

Viral posts about how Moms For Liberty had zero wins on election night...aren't true. They're misinformation, even dis-info.

M4L did have a number of school board candidates win. You can verify that information pretty easily.

They had *A LOT* of losses and their power isn't what it once was.

🤷‍♀️ Librarians know what books their communities are looking for, & for many communities, Christian books are not only appropriate but high-circulating.

I don't know if you're going for a gotcha, but you're not getting it. Christians pay taxes to the library, too, & MOST do not agree with book bans.
What are your thoughts on using your state tax $ to procure books on Christianity for your local library?

As racist responses to Mamdani's win emerge on social platforms, consider not sharing the actual posts.

Our Muslim siblings don't need to see that bullshit every time they scroll, & we can just call out the people saying those things as racist fools, & stay focused on our joy over his win 🥰

Maybe nobody in the great big world cares about this.
But the public libraries in tiny Jefferson County in Northern Appalachia were in danger of losing their tax funding thanks to right-wing book banners. And we won. The library's funding is safe!!!!!

Book banning isn't popular and isn't what parents nor taxpayers want.

The average person is sick of hearing about the unhinged sexual fantasies made up by the genital obsessed party.
I'll go ahead and say it. Texas book banners got their butts kicked in tonight's school board elections. Again.
