I honestly expected more from a FIFA Peace Prize recipient
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

I can't decide if this is more or less as crazy as Putin's excuse for invading Ukraine.

Susan Wiles really needs to put a stop to this garbage.
Trump is calling for the arrest of his perceived enemies again. Including Christopher Wray, his own handpicked FBI director.

There's only one reason to force regime change there -- Jared Kushner or one of the Trump boys wants an interest in a Venzuelan oilfield and is already in talks to get it.
I don’t put too much stock in arguments that this administration wants war with Venezuela specifically to jumpstart mass deportations because (1) we already live in a world of kavanaugh stops—they don’t need a costly pretext to terrorize people; (2) each bad vizier probably has a different reason

Does POTUS have authority under the US Constitution or the War Power's Act to unilaterally blockade another country's commercial activity?
No. No he does not.

The Trump administration is making us all dumber.
NSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇

The Saudis and Russians scoff at $250 million.
Trump: "Miriam Adelson…gave my campaign, indirectly and directly, $250 million — she was number one. When someone can you $250 million, I think that we should give her the opportunity to say hello. And Miriam, make it quick, be cause $250 million is not what it used to be."

V interesting.
🚨We analyzed 138 million geocoded property tax records to quantify how municipal boundaries spatially overlap onto economic segregation in every US metro area—creating disparities in localities’ ability to fund public goods. And we made an interactive map of our results! [1/16]

There's some very obvious blame shifting in this post by SouthComm.
We just murdered eight more people in boats.

This is the basis for a class action law suit. If anyone not named Trump were POTUS, the DoJ would already have a grand jury running.

Data analysis gets you big phat (mostly) bell curves for a wide range of activities that happen on or near streets. Waymo is now well out on the tails trying to generalize from very few or no observations.
one of the BIG things AVs can't do (this is what we were hoping to solve) is understand WHY people are standing near it or in the street; to a human driver somebody who is trying to coax a cat out from under the car is VERY obvious; to the waymo they're a bounding box that is in the way or not
Waymo's narrative also doesn't disclose how/whether their robot (mis)understood:

"A pedestrian approached the Waymo AV from the east on the southern sidewalk of 16th Street and began crouching near the front of the Waymo AV, stepping partially into the roadway, appearing to reach for the cat."

The number of glaciers disappearing worldwide each year is projected to sharply increase, peaking at 2,000–4,000 per year around the middle of the century, depending on the level of warming above pre-industrial levels, according to a study in Nature Climate Change. go.nature.com/4pEfbP5 ⚒️ 🧪

Wow, Ford done with the F-150 [BEV] Lightning.

"Ford is rethinking its EV and battery strategy, dropping the all-electric version of the F-150 Lighting and putting more of its money into hybrid trucks and energy storage to support data centers and grid stability."

Canada is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources. China would love to access all of that.
Canada is mulling how to re-engage with China. There is room for growth when it comes to trade: it takes only about 4% of Canada’s exports currently. But America will complicate matters
Hedging against Trump, Canada reconsiders ties with China

Not sure I even believe this score or this benchmark as an altogether relevant measure of AI's ability to replace a human doing a job, but also it's getting this score in an average of 1/10 the time and 1% of the cost of humans. CEO's are going to have a lot of hard decisions in 2026.
Whoa. This new GDPval score for GPT-5.2 is something.

GDPval is probably the most economically relevant measure of AI ability, suggesting that in head-to-head competition with human experts on tasks that require 4-8 hours for a human to do, GPT-5.2 wins 71% of the time as judged by other humans.
