Genuinely hope hundreds of people are asking for refunds.
If you donated to Platner via ActBlue, you can get a refund!

Contact them NOW and ask for your money back!
I donated to his campaign. I was pissed off when it was revealed he worked as a merc, and debating what to do when the tattoo & queerphobic posts came out.

I contacted ActBlue, asked for it to be returned, got an acknowledgement of the return a few hours later; 2 days later it was in my account.

signs like these are up all over Chicago cafes and storefronts (here, cafes in Brighton Park and Back of the Yards) warning ICE not to enter without a judicial warrant

This ICE removal operated by Omni Air International is now making its second stop, in Sri Lanka. So far, migrants onboard have spent 34 hours in handcuffs, leg irons and a waist chain. There may be more stops.

Omni and its parent company were purchased in April by private equity firm Stonepeak.

Instagram has meta AI results at the top of its search results but if I look up forte greene dog parade winners I get results from 80+ weeks ago instead of the event that just happened today that I also attended

Either this ends with some sort of truth and reconciliation process where a very large number of people go to prison for a very long time or we will take a short pause and then start doing it again, but worse.
A Naperville man was hauled away by federal immigration agents Thursday morning as his two sons watched, the older boy begging them not to hurt his father and tearfully asking for a chance to speak to him before they left.

The Founders anticipated the possibility of a corrupt, venal, lawbreaking, wannabe monarch president.

What they did not expect is numerous people achieving prominent national office and not wanting to guard their own power. The combo of ego to run but pathetic absence of ego in office stands out.

I understand why they had to stop him but I don’t agree with imprisoning him in the phantom zone

Prior to the First World War, Europeans and North Americans could freely travel between countries in peacetime without any kind of documents at all. The world did not end.
Before 2007, US citizens could enter the US from other parts of the Americas (excluding Cuba) by presenting any sufficient evidence of citizenship, including an oral declaration.

Most people used driver's licenses, despite those not denoting citizenship.
Most Americans are deeply ignorant of how national borders and travel and migration worked, historically – but they assume that it was always like now.

It wasn’t even like now when I was younger.

A friend of mine in Chicago just shared a video on IG of an ICE operation near her house. The operation happened just minutes before the neighborhood Halloween parade. ICE used tear gas and multiple parents had to wash their kids' (including toddlers) eyes out.

Reminder that the idea of "border security" is political and a result of moral panic. In 1965, Congress passed amendments to the Immigration and Nationality Act that put number limits on immigration and ended longstanding guest worker agreements with Mexico. This helped lead to agencies like ICE. /1

The president doesn’t have a constitutional right to impose a tariff because he doesn’t like a foreign country’s TV ad. I know this doesn’t matter to the dictator in the White House, but I thought I’d point it out in case we ever start following the Constitution again.

In spite of the headline, there is the pesky legal matter that neither billionaires or anybody else can “give” money to “pay troops” or anything else. However, a great compromise would be for billionaires to pay more money into the general treasury through “taxes.”

Apparently some folks are playing real dumb about skull symbols so let’s play a little game I like to call “Nazi skull or not a Nazi skull”

First up, the Jolly Roger. This is a pirate skull, not a Nazi skull. It means you might get robbed, but prolly not genocided.

With me so far? 1/x

the administration is spending money on renovating the presidential mansion, illegally using federal funds to pay soldiers and ice. they don't care if the department of housing or urban development reopens. they don't care if congress comes back or not.

i think it's interesting that we've all entertained the thought "there might not be another election", many of us have said it out loud, but no one seems willing to acknowledge that this federal shutdown is probably it. no federal elections because the federal government is just over now.
They don’t even pretend to care. This is the only story. You can’t open the government if the House refuses to show up.
