Apparently, I misunderstood the level of car-centering from the original authors with 3 lanes of traffic each direction moving at 45-55 mph (72-88 km/h). The images and discussion I had seen looked like light rail, 1 lane of traffic, parking, bike lanes, al fresco dining patios, and sidewalk.

Cody Gakpo with great movement and a beautiful strike. Whether in red or orange I love watching him, Virg, and Grav on the pitch together. #NEDFIN #YNWA

Wow. I did not realize these were intended to be SO wide. The angled images from the imagined sidewalk view made it look like either 2 lanes or a lane + parking between the central transit space and bike lanes.

"Make cities safe and fun for kids to run around and play in" is a pretty good guiding light for urban planning

“In a city once choked with cars and infamous for its traffic snarls, Paris has pulled off a remarkable turnaround…the French capital has officially become Europe’s best city for children to walk, cycle, and move around independently.” Via @momentummag.bsky.social

A victory for FAST leadership.

This is a great approach but still presumes that major arterials like Wilshire in L.A. need to exist to support car traffic at all. Prioritizing public transit (preferably light rail) and active transport eliminates the noise and pollution, while making these modes more effective and appealing.

This is my feeling too. We need a belt and suspenders approach to housing affordability and access.
Converting arterials and urban surface highways to “grand boulevards” with high(er) density mixed use construction, slower speed limits, and multi-modal transport would still be a win.

A Mr. Rogers sweater celebrating Mr. Rogers would be great.

I’m surprised more of these aren’t built out of tube steel, one-sided bike racks. There is definitely a lack of good places to lock up bikes in a lot of cities/neighborhoods.

We have for sure run into each other multiple times around this part of The Junction and not known it. I need to finally make it to one of the Wednesday night happy hours.

Stroller and shopping trolley. One or the other in San Francisco wasn’t bad but seeing women (always women) struggling with both was wild. People looked at me like I was crazy for getting out of my seat to help usually too.

You may be stretching the definition of “functional” a bit here.
I have had almost this exact interaction, in this same place, at least a half dozen times.

Does “Mrs Wagon the elder” know about “Mrs Wagon the youngest”?
Punctuation saves marriages.

“In order to create public transit and bike infrastructure we need to close car lanes and eliminate parking spaces but, until the public transit and bike infrastructure is there, people won’t support closing car lanes and eliminating parking spaces…”

That is incredibly stupid and shortsighted of them. Along with higher overall vaccination rates being the best way of protecting those with pre-existing conditions or those who can’t have the shots, vaccines provide the best return on investment possible for a health system.
modernminstrel.bsky.social
Wait… NHS doesn’t cover vaccines?!

I have never before laughed as hard as I laughed throughout Ashley Gavin’s show at The Neptune tonight.

If you are easily offended you might not want to go. If you enjoy saying dirty shit and laughing along with a bunch of smiling lesbians though, find a way to a show. You won’t regret it.

Upzoning, and code reform that allows multi-family housing (at least up to 8 flats) to be built more affordably are more important than any other factors being discussed. Right now single-family homes or massive apartment buildings full of studios and 1-bed units are all that pencil for developers.

That’s incredible. I’ve seen mason bees get pretty well covered, but that looks caked on in layers.

Ocean fit better to me between It Used To Be Me and Treasure. This made for a great music day. Thanks!

I replaced Ocean and The 13th with This Is A Lie and really enjoyed it.
